Toto2Kansas Posted May 22, 2009 #26 Share Posted May 22, 2009 A TA cannot request, or get, an upgrade; it's done via computer. Most likely, the pricing dropped and instead of giving you the lower price for your cabin, your TA told you he'd upgraded you for no extra money and took the credit by telling you he got you an upgrade. IMHO, that's not a good TA; a good one would have given you the available options. Some people like the cabin they're in and would love to be re-fared down. I totally agree with Pam on this. I used a TA once that frequents another message board and was constantly having her clients post to the board about what a great TA she was because SHE got them a 'complimentary' upgrade. I booked with her a couple of times and found she was doing exactly what Pam has described. The price would drop, and instead of giving her client the option of a refund OR an upgrade (usually within the same category), she would tell them SHE managed to secure them a 'complimentary' upgrade. Needless to say, I stopped booking with this TA immediately as I look at this as a false statement by the TA, and it always makes me wonder what else they pull without me knowing about it. IMHO! Joe Pflanz Posted May 22, 2009 #27 Share Posted May 22, 2009 The TA can most certain check the box that says you are interested in an upgrade. does nto get you one, but it allows Princess to knwo you are interested. Mostly it is used by folks who want specific rooms or to be located near others in a group, that would leave it unchecked so they do nto get moved from what they want. So yes a TA can let Princess know you are interested. they can do nothing get you upgraded though There is also somethign called a MOVE OVER....Where Princess will ask if you will change cruises at the last minute if they make you a good ffer..usually including a major upgrade...There is a MOVE OVER specialist and group that works this depending onthe cruiseline's need. They do work closely with agencies, not agents, in trying ot get peopel to move over, if they have over booked or have a pressing need for certain categories. The specialist will work with agencies they know to be responsive and timely, as they need quick determination if they can make a deal.
