Puntarenas: looking for local bar & nice beach recommendations

I have been using Google-Earth and its photos for the area where the ship docks in Puntarenas, CR. It appears the dock is 1/3 of a mile long and it is about 1 & 1/3 miles to the end of the peninsula. It appears the peninsula is 1/3 miles across at the point where the ships dock. Do I have these estimations correct? Is it worthwhile taking a stroll to the end of the peninsula ….are the beaches nice? If returning early from an excursion is the beach area at the end of the dock a nice place to spend and hour or two? Is it better to walk to the other side of the peninsula? Any recommendations for local bars within walking distance from the ship. Looking for something “exciting” to do after the 6 hour shore excursion…..we are not shoppers. Thanks for your advice!
