westerndh Posted May 26, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2009 So far it's been wonderful, sunny with occasional low puffy clouds. Winds are Force 7, seas with 5-7ft swells, QM2 handles all this with ease. We had some excitement this morning, about 11.30am QM2 turned around & we headed back toward the Scilly Isles to rendevous with a Royal Navy medivac from Culdrose. A passenger had broken her hip. After sailing East for just over a couple of hours, we turned south to meet up with the helicopter about 1.15. It took about 45 minutes of low circling and a failed first attempt to evacuate the passenger. The helicopter left at 2pm. I'm not sure exactly how far we were from land, but the captain had told us the helicopter had to refuel in the Scilly Isles before heading out to us. All guests were evacuated from all cabins on 11 & 12 deck and also open decks, except at the stern. The ship firefighters prepared & tested hoses (presumably in case the helicpoter crashed!!). All in all a fascinating event to watch. We're a few hours behind schedule, but the Captain says we'll be in NY on time. Everything else going really well, QM2 is really a beautiful ship. Rocky123 Posted May 31, 2009 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2009 This is the reason why you should have cruise insurance. The transport and the medical bills will all be covered. The transport most insurance companies insure for around $250,000 to $1,000,000. It's insurance and you never know if it's your turn....
