CruisingMike Posted December 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 11, 2004  Is it allowed to not pre-pay your tips? I mean not to have the tips added to you account in advance but pay the tips yourself at the end of the cruise. In that case you can decide yourself who you're going to tip and how much....:)
johnql Posted December 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 11, 2004 Yes, but it gets a lot messier having to tip "as you go" with Freestyle since you don't usually have the same wait staff at each meal. If you somehow arrange a standing reservation in the dining room with the same wait personnel, you can certainly tip traditionally on the last night without much difficulty. Otherwise, I feel it's too much of a hassle tipping at every meal. I suppose you can also tip your steward the traditional way, too, by going to the purser and having the entire automatic tip removed. It's probably just a matter of semantics, but the tip is not really given "in advance"; it's added to your onboard account on a daily basis and can be adjusted at any time during the cruise (up or down). That is until early next year when NCLs tips otherwise known as "service charges" are mandatory, and cannot be adujsted.
salty dingo Posted December 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 12, 2004 If you contemplate doing this, go to the purser as soon as you board and look into it. And let us know after the cruise how it worked for you!
