Belize new $50 million pier?

DW purchase a 2009 Fodor book this week for her aunt. In the book it talks

about a new $50 million carnival pier which should open in 2009 or early 2010.

 

Any one know anything on this? Is it a true pier or will tendering still be

necessary? Any pictures?

This is the best I can come up with. It has been talked about for a long, long time. Not sure if they are still working on this or not, but I found this link.

As you tender in to Belize City, you will see the new pier under construction if you look a bit to your left, port side of the tender, about half way into Belize.

It looks to be coming along nicely & has been under construction for over one year.

Oops looks like it has all gone wrong. Tenders will be running for a long time yet!

 

They broke champagne for the $100 million Belize Cruise Terminal in April of 2004, but 5 years on, the sweet taste of that day has soured and now 7News has learned that Carnival Corporation has terminated its agreement with developer Luke Espat. 7News has obtained a copy of a letter sent from Carnival’s Senior Vice President Giora Israel to the CEO in the Ministry of Tourism Michael Singh informing him that, “at our meeting with Luke Espat on May 19th. we agreed to seek a termination of the joint venture transaction for the development of the cruise port facility in Belize.”
