Port of Civitavecchia

I have previously done Rome so am wondering if there is anything of interest in the actual port of Civitavecchia. Also does anyone know what the policy for taking alchohol onto P&O ships (as I like a drink as I'm getting ready)

hi tripgy welcome to the cruise forums.with regards to civitavecchia we have always had a tour from the ship as were told that there isnt anything worth looking at in the immediate area of the port.we did rome twice and from then on we did a half day tour around tuscany, beautifull area.with regard to drink being taken on the ship they are quite relaxed about this issue,we always take a bottle of brandy & port on board (purely medicinal of course).but if you stop at gibralta on your way back almost every body brings a small quantity of alchohol back on board.hope this helps..humpy..happy sailing.
