Explorer of the Seas - December - New Jersey

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help us make our mind up?. Looking to Book at Christmas time, Explorer of the Seas from the Port of Cape Liberty. How rough can we expect the seas to be on the first 2 days of this cruise to the Caribbean. Southern Caribbean itinery. Thanks San

Nothing can be guaranteed but the first and last sea day could be quite choppy. Crusing back to NJ in April we had 30ft swells for over 24 hours which made it very difficult to move around the ship. That said, we were told this wasn't 'normal' weather and whilst it can be quite rough, not usually that bad, no matter what time of year.

We were on the Explorer 2007 holiday sailing. On New Year's Eve, at around 1 AM it got really rough. We put our winter gear on and braved the pool deck where 50-60 mile gusts were shooting across the deck and the seas were extremely choppy. We held onto the rails for a minute and then staggered back in.

On the promenade, a few women were lurching back and forth and it wasn't because of booze, they had trouble with the heels and the boat bouncing.

Think of it as an adventure.

If your flying from the UK why not go to Miami. Port Canaveral or Ft Lauderdale that time of year? The weather will be much better for the full cruise and usually the seas are calmer.

Thanks Mike, We are looking at that option also, but like this Ship and Itinerary. We have already done the Ft Lauderdale and Barbados departures. Trouble with a lot of RCL cruises from Ft Lauderdale & Miami they seem to be 4/5 days, and we like the longer trips. Thanks San:)
