Butler & Concierge Questions

This question may seem silly to some but here goes anyway...

We are sailing in an AB suite on the Dawn in August. Can you tell me exactly what the butler & concierge's rolls are. I have a vague idea but clarification would be great. How does one differ from the other and what are some things they could do for us that maybe I wouln't have thought of.

Any info. on this would be helpful:)

A butler would serve any meals you request to beserved in your suite. They would bring you things. A concierge is more of an arrangement maker, like dinner reservations. They get you invites to specific functions just for suite guests. They provide VIP tendering tickets, VIP disembarkation luggage tags and will actually escort you in a group off the ship. They will also meet you in the VIP lounge at embarkation, sometimes escort you on the ship and will usually introduce you to your butler.

 

Several concierges used to be butlers.

Prepared to be completely spoiled!!! We have sailed in an AB on the Dawn 3 times (4th one coming up on Sunday!).

 

I look at it like this: the Butler helps me with anything inside the cabin: DVDs, in-cabin meals, pressing service, how does this fling-dinging coffee maker work anyway???

 

The Concierge helps me with anything outside the cabin: restaurant reservations, shore excursions, tender tickets, etc.

 

One word of warning: Once you sail in a suite you will NEVER go back!

Is there a charge if you need something pressed?

 

Yes, but it's pretty small: something like $2.50 for pair of pants, etc. If I remember correctly, there's a 1/2-off special the first night.

And Tammy they give you your very own personal cel-phone to use on the ship.:D This way you can call your butler at any time for anything or you can call your stateroom and check up on the family or you can even call me, I'll be down the hall!:rolleyes:

Concierge Service

The purpose of the Concierge is to provide personalized service to guests in Villa & Suite Categories (Not available to guests in Mini-Suites as of January 2008 in every way possible, coordinating requests for services such as:

 

Cocktail parties

Dinners in staterooms

Shore excursions

Car rentals

Golf or tennis appointments

Beauty Salon/massage appointments

Private Art/Jewelry showings with onboard concessions

Restaurant reservations onboard or in Ports of Call

Priority embarkation & disembarkation

Priority tenders ashore

The Concierge also assists with any problems that might occur for the Villa/Suite guests who are given a direct phone or pager number to contact the Concierge

 

Butler Service

The Butler liaises closely with the Concierge to provide 24-hour personalized service for the Villa/Suite guests who are given a direct phone or pager number to contact the Butler.Each Butler is assigned to take care of an average of 9 Villas/Suites each (not available to guests in Mini-Suites). Services include:

 

Unpack luggage

Expedite dry cleaning processes

Shoe-shine service

Serve at Cocktail parties in Villas/Suites

Serve Dinners in Villas/Suites

Delivery of fresh fruit

Delivery of sodas/water/liquor/wine/newspapers if ordered (These are NOT complimentary in all Suite categories)

Delivery of movies from a DVD library

Ensure balconies/gardens are stocked with fresh towels/seat cushions

Fill/empty hot tubs (NOT available in all suites) and instruct guests on safe use

 

Tips for Butler and/or Concierge are NOT included in the $12 pp per day service charge. We recommend guests consider offering a gratuity commensurate with services rendered.

Thanks forthe above. I have never had one before but I'm in a Penthouse Suite on the Epic and a Butler is listed as well as the Epic Club/pool area. This will be different. I'll have my lobster night on my balconey now. I am going for a B2B so what is the usually for the Butler.

Since this question is on topic, I'll venture to ask. We will be on the Majesty in an Owner's Suite. I understand we have a concierge, but not a butler. In this situation, are there any of the butler's duties that get passed to the concierge, or do any of the butler's duties fall to the steward and/or room service waiters?

We were in 901 and had a great time. No butler, but room service will bring you some goodies. We didn't order anything except coffee, muffins and juice for breakfast a couple of times. The Majesty didn't have a full room service breakfast menu. I'm not sure about lunch and dinner.

The concierge does not take on any of the butler's duties, but she was very helpful and attentive.

Truly that was one of my favorite parts of having an AC, AB, then an AA. When My Lee and I were on the Gem in March, we had an AB Penthouse. It came with our wonderful concierge, Alex Forbes, our fantastic butler, Mr. T and a little Cel Phone. My Lee rolled her eyes every time I put it in my pocket. However, one day we were on a bus, sitting on the dock, waiting for the tour to start. We realized we didn't make any reservation. I pulled the phone out of my shirt pocket and made the reservation with no problem. My Lee couldn't believe I took the phone off the boat or that it worked on shore. But there we were with our reservation in hand--so to speak. That cell phone is there for you to use. Use it early.... use it often... call the Captain; tell him he's doing a hell of a job. Call the cruise director, tell him you'd like to have the lead singer's phone number....that may be pushing it. (But only because the cruise director is DATING the lead singer) But I digress.... But you get the idea.... Use every perq for all they're worth. And as has been said many times before me.... Once you know the "Suite Life" you'll never want to go back. Enjoy your cruise.

This is very well said! Use your butler as the point person for the cabin. Another example, when our television wasn't operating correctly, we just called the butler. A maintenance person was there withiin 10 minutes.

 

We love the on board phone. It's great for calling ahead if you think of something you need while you are away from the cabin. Once we took it off ship, as it worked from the pier after we returned from an excursion. As we waited to get through security, we called the concierge and changed dinner reservations. ;)

 

Don't be afraid to ask the concierge for anything. Once DW was trying to get in the spa for a manicure and they said they were booked up. The concierge said they were booked up and nothing she could do. Then, about an hour later they called and said they could squeeze her in. Ahh, the suite life! :)

OH gosh.. The Suite Life.. my children may never get over this. We are cruising on the Jewel 27th June in a Penthouse suite (the one with the separate child's room) and I'm a bit nervous about using the butler. The cell phone sounds interesting.. and I am curious about the tipping as well.

You can search out tipping in suite in past threads and get many, many answers! I was so confused by the time we left for our cruise, I really didn't quite know what to leave! For our upcoming cruise, we have agreed on $10 per person adding to it should we feel the need. That just seems to be the magic number for us....yours may vary.:)

WE will be in an Ab in August on the Dawn. Can we order dinner from the Venician and have it brougth to our room for a certain time?

 

You can order from the Venician or any other restaurant. Also, you can order your breakfast and lunch from Cagneys or the MDR. Enjoy. You will be spoiled. 8-)
