BlueJacketsFan1 Posted June 11, 2009 #51 Share Posted June 11, 2009 Why would you change your tipping because Carnival adds the fuel surcharge back on. Plus how do you not look cheap if you hold back the workers tips because the company raises the price. It's in the contract that they can raise the cost, you know it could very well happen when you booked a cruise. Wall Street controls the oil prices, not the workers on the cruise ship. Summer is coming and Wall Street thinks we are going to start using more oil, so the price goes up. How does that figure into what your room steward, waiter or anyone else on the ship does. Drink two less drinks or spend $9 less in the casino a day, but don't punish the staff for oil prices.
jamscckmc Posted June 11, 2009 #52 Share Posted June 11, 2009 One has nothing to do with the other. When gas prices are higher do you tip less at restaurants? If you got really good service and you normally give extra tips then give what you normally would. I would rather have a few less drinks if money is an issue then not give extra tips. Wrong - both are part of the cruiser's budget. If gas gets too high - I think waiters would rather I come and tip at 15% rather than stay home because the whole proposition was too expensive. tedjazz Posted June 11, 2009 #55 Share Posted June 11, 2009 PS - I'm pretty sure I'm right about this so don't expect me to give up on it easy. If you want to avoid a week long debate about this - best just to post "You're right Neal" or move on. You're Right Neal... ;)

They are related (as a few here have posted). When prices increase, people cut back. Economics 101.  :D

How about the blackjack dealer when I gamble less? Not to mention I'd be having less fun. Maybe I will just make my own bed each day and forego doling out the extra tips. :D

Guess I won't be tipping the tour operators since I won't be using their services. Doesn't seem fair that they have to to bear the burden of Carnival's decsion - but who ever said life was fair?:D
