It may be annoying but not compensation worthy!!!!!

Have you ever sat next to a screaming kid for a 5 hour flight:confused:

LOL! Annoying is putting it mildly........imagine having one in the cabin next to you on a cruise ship:eek:

Every one's annoyance level is set differently:D It's still not a bad idea IMO:D

But see Kurban, thats why you pack your duct tape............. sneak over and cover that kids mouth!!!! or sue the cruise line for loud neighbors, either or :p;)

You can always blow smoke under their door too, that will make the screaming stop for coughs!!!

Ok I'm gonna get flamed for my annoying mean sense of humor, so I might as well go to work, hagd!!!!:D

I traveled with my neice who was six months old at the time. She cried most of the way due to an unknown ear infection and ended up throwing up all over my front. Downright aweful for me. Annoying for everyone else. They still got to their destination. I'm just saying that life hands us lemons. MAKE LEMONADE!!!!!!

All in the name of a good lawsuit..... I can hear it now.... But your honor... I don't smoke and it was smokey in my cabin. One day I might end up with second hand smoke lung cancer. How much can I get for that???????

Every cruise I take, my worse fear is the possibility of having a screaming kid in the cabin next to mine.

I have absolutely nothing against children. I have grandchildren and my nerves grate when they scream too.

I understand that there are rooms that will undoubtedly have noise issues. But isn't the rule, "Let the buyer beware"? Since when did we start compensating people for ignorance. And I don't mean ignorance in being rude. With any vacation there comes risk. Is the hotel room going to have bugs? Will the linens be thread barren? Will the air conditioning work properly? These are gripes that cannot be planned for in advance. Being able to hear the noise on a cruise ship is just ludicrous to me. There are deck plans on Carnival's website so that you can see exactly what your room is going to be over. There really are no excuses. I'm sorry. Carnival was wrong in compensating these spoiled people. Unfortunately, it's the stockholders who are going to pay in the end. God forbid their child not get to pick her own crayons or a new pack of crayons in Camp Carnival. Those are grounds for a multi-million dollar lawsuit. Give me a break!!!!!!

It comes down to what is a reasonable expectation of the level of service provided by a company like a major cruise line. Most non-cruisers would never dream that a cruise line would put a cabin directly over the disco much less sell it right along with the others without any mention of the noise that would definately be encountered.

Buyer beware? Not everyone books via the website. And IMHO Carnival's customers(particulary first time cruisers) should not have to do their own research to find out the cabin their PVP just sold them is over the disco or casino bar. These cabins in particular should come with full disclosure. Why not? What would be wrong with making sure the guest was ok with this location? Or should the Purser just say, "Yeah, your cabin is over the disco, 'Buyer Beware'.

Not good business.

Someone pays $400 for a cabin on a seven day cruise and stubs his toe running around barefoot on a soaking wet Lido Deck pool area, flanked by CAUTION - Slippery when wet - signs. He complains that the cruise line is negligent and the LEAST he gets is a bottle of champagne and chocolates.

This happened to me a few cruises ago, I was in a hurry and slipped right next to one of the yellow caution cones and was sitting in a puddle of water and laughing so hard at my clumsiness, DH tried to help me up and HE fell and was laughing, so a drink waiter came over trying to pick us both up, he probably weighed 50 pounds less than me (tiny guy) which made me laugh even more! I never once thought it was Carnival's fault nor would I ask for anything for me being uncoordinated! :p

I understand your point. But, as someone who has only cruised once I made sure to do my homework. I checked out the deck plans. I looked at every possible way to save money. I knew what the menus were before we boarded. I had already booked our excursions. And guess what happened, HURRICANE IKE!!!!! You can't account for everything. Letting things that are out of your control ruin your vacation is stupid. If Carnival compensated everyone who heard noise in their cabins they would be out of business. These people got what they paid for. They got a cabin on the upper deck on the beautiful Carnival Conquest. I guess if the seas were rough and they missed the Grand Caymans like we did they would be expecting more compensation than just the $25 OBC everyone else got. You and I will just have to agree to disagree. I see this as one more example of people expecting EVERYTHING for nothing. It's all about ME, ME, ME. But I bet the next time they cruise they will look at the deck plan before they book. LESSON LEARNED. Unfortunately, at the cost of Carnival.

Does anyone bring a small floor fan with them for white noise? I have an iPhone with the white noise thing, but I prefer the sound and breeze of a fan. I have grown use to the noise and have a hard time falling asleep without it.

We are driving so we very well might just bring the entire house. It is somewhat embarrassing....but nice to have everything!! :D

You keep comparing this situation to acts of nature or random chance. These cabins will experience loud noise at late hours on every cruise. Seems simple to me for Carnival to disclose this on the front end, LESSON NOT LEARNED. Unfortunately, at the cost of Carnival.

Hmm....entirely putting aside the compensation thing (I've got no opinion on that, one way or another):

The noise level was noted as "low end of normal conversation". At first I thought, "Oh, that's not so loud.". Then I realized it's the equivalent of having someone talking IN YOUR CABIN while you're trying to sleep. I'd be pretty frustrated with that going on.

It's not saying they "could" hear noise. It's saying the noise was as loud as someone IN the room with them. EEK.

According to the story Carnival stated that the room has never had a noise complaint before. Not saying it isn't noisy just without a previous complaint on a particular room what rooms would you list as having a noise problem?

Sadly, this is an environment that cruise lines have created for themselves.

I love the fact that cruise lines are so customer centric but when have you or anyone else EVER done that with an airline?? For pities sake... you BAGS go missing forever and you get a few hundred bucks back and told you're lucky to get it.

Just think how many services could avoid being cut or restored if the lines didn't have to compensate whiners like this guy...

OK... off my soap box now...

FOO!!!

It is hard to believe the person that wrote the article likes Carnival because they just blasted a HUGE opening for a line to be formed for Nit-Picky whiners. There has to be more to the story than the article states. What about all of the other people on the same deck between 6363 and the atrium? Where they compensated too? If Carnival started handing out cash to anyone, even just one person regarding noise, wouldn’t they have moved the band to avoid others from complaining too? The article makes it sound as though this family was were the only ones on the ship.

If they are first time cruisers and are sensitive to noise around you, then BOO HOO, welcome to cruising. Wake up – on cruise ship you are in close quarters and they have a lot of people on them and DUH – you are going to hear them sometimes. Go home and plan your next vacation on a secluded island somewhere.

WOW! What more could they expect?

-they couldn't be moved because there were NO MORE staterooms available

-they adjusted the volume

-they offered them generous compensation

You sleep, what 8 hours a night? Seems they got their money worth the other 16 hours of the day.

True, and none of us really know the whole story here, but Carnival did make an offer of compensation for some reason. Regardless, there are rooms with definate noise issues. I think that more than likely Carnival's bean counters have figued out it is better for the bottom line to offer the occaisonal complaint some compensation than to reduce the price of these cabins for every cruise.

Sadly to some extent I think you are right. It is all about the bottom line. But man, how can they justify paying someone a fist full of money for noise they hear on a cruise ship? Per the article the noise level was acceptable. I can understand if the decible level was excessive, but it wasn't. Is Carnival concerned they would be sued? What case would the family have if no one else around them complained as well?

It is idiot complainers like that who make cruising more expensive for the rest of us. I totally can't believe Carnival would have even offered them $900 OBC and on top of that increased the amount. Nor does the cost of airfare or hotel have any impact on what Carnival should (or should not) have offered. Makes you wonder how many other fools will complain about something idiotic just to get some OBC.

Totally ridiculous!!!!

I agree. The compensation seems way out of line. It just feeds the monster. So many people think that if they scream and yell loud enough they can get anything they want. And sadly, it seems to be correct.

On one of the cruises that we took, our room was directly across from the crew's door... and every morning without fail, the door would start to slam, over and over as the cabin stewards delivered breakfast, etc.

So... did I run to the purser and demand compensation??? no... I spoke to the supervisor on the floor and asked if there was any way to dampen the sound of the noise of the door when it closes....

He explained that it was a fire hazard to put anything in it that would prevent it from closing...

BUT... the next day I saw a big hand written sign on the other side of the door... "Please do not let the door slam"...

Never had a problem after that...
