Yup! tie you up and throw you on another cruise for "punishment" LOL. And when I used the word crashers I was thinking along the lines of the show wedding crashers. They were 2 we had already met and had gotten to know so it wasn't something bad. We actually enjoyed our extra time with them as they helped make this cruise. If not for the awesome people from the roll call we met and going with them on the excursion I probably would have posted totally different type of review. It would have been short, few pics and alot harsher on carnival. So for those that think I was being out of line stating what I did you can thank the roll call members for this review, as the alternative woulda been a BIG slam on carnival.

 

I did take alot of pics of food but didn't think I should take the time to post all of them lol. I used flickr and you're only allowed so many uploads and a certain amount of size. Won't use that site again lol. I thought I posted the best main course and the best desert but I can post others lol.

There are always people who just love to start fights and pick apart everything everyone else is saying. I agree with you guys. Let the OP just finish the review and be on with it. I don't understand why so many people have to be so agrumenitive (sp?) and ready to fight!!

The review section allows for posting a complete review, but lacks the ability for those reading to pose questions and comments on what the reviewer is writing.

 

I thought that is why many choose to post their reviews on the discussion board section.

 

I love the reviews posted in segments as they do generate the most responses and my guess that is the very reason many choose to post that way rather than just creating a review in one large document and waiting to post it until it is done.

 

I think your review is interesting and has a lot of good information, but I also am interested in the responses from others too.

Thankyou. I take the time and effort to post namely because it's something good for a newbie to see a review in full and the pics add a nice touch. While I like the feedback I was starting to get frustrated over the racist/tipping arguments that were coming from what I typed. I won't make the same mistake after my next cruise as I won't mention what decent they are I'll just say "a group from brooklyn" so a bunch of newyorkers are mad at me instead LOL. As far as the tipping I have seen some threads go nuts with if it is/isn't acceptable. I won't weigh in on that as there's a thread for that. I just wish those weighing in on the review would have done so on said thread and not argue over it in here. I'm speculating that most don't realize just how much time AND effort go into a review like this.

 

Well, I know how much I enjoy and learn from reviews & appreciate the efforts. I don't think mentioning someone's ethnicity is an issue especially if it is in relation to cultural/language differences. When I read "casino winning thieves" I knew where that would was going to end up. The story itself would have had more milage alone, rather than a follow up to a poster questioning what you meant by it.

I don't know if it has anything to do but can it be that shorter cruises most of the time attract another crowd?

 

I have been checking out local asian TA for a futrue cruise and have noticed many promoting a special deal on the 4 day Triump. So this may be the reason why there is such a large asian group.

Nice review and pictures. I have booked a tour through Freedom Tours. I was very happy to hear that you had a nice tour. I hope they fix the problem you had boarding the ship and the drink cup issue before I cruise on the Triumph.

I plan on taking my own travel mugs, in case there are no glasses available on lido. I plan on taking my own bottled water and pop, so I dont care if the drink machines work or not. I have no use for camp carnival as I wont be bringing small children. I have never swam in the pools on the ship on any of my past cruises so dont think I will miss that, diapered babies in the pool is disgusting but again, I wont be in them anyway. I plan on bringing blankets so I can sit out on deck at night and watch the movies under the stars. I hope to have calm seas as this WILL affect my trip, but hey any ship on any itinerery is subject to that. I appreciate all the reviews from the recent cruisers but nothing said has dampened my spirits for the upcoming cruise. I'm going to try to stay positive as it is too late to back out now without losing my money. :)

If I do a trip report, I wont post it on a thread, but under the reviews as I dont have the patience or tolerance for the childish arguementative behaviour that goes on here. Some people have nothing better to do than pick apart every statement posted on these boards. Kudos to Michele and Patsea and the LittleBig Foots for your honest reviews. ;)

we3k9 - we were the first ship into canada so maybe they will work their kinks out. whatever - it is still vacation and if i'm not working - all is right with the world. you will enjoy the main dining room food - that was good. and have an extra warm melting chocolate cake for me. ENJOY

I was also thinking that some of the problems cited might be due to this being the first Canada run this year combined with the fact that the newly built terminal in Saint John just opened. We're on the June 29th sailing, so I hope this will be the case. I think it is easy to foresee that any short cruise out of NYC in coldish weather is going to attract tour groups primarily interested in the casino. (Especially when you compare the cost of this cruise to rooms at Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun.) Our area schools are still in session too, making for fewer family cruisers on this run than during the rest of the summer.

Thanks to your suggestions I'll be bringing a large blanket to enjoy the movies at night and planning to allow time to eat in the MDR more frequently rather than brave the buffet lines. It is unfortunate, yet totally understandable that the negativity will discourage others from posting future reviews.

there was only 1 port stop - st. john's new brunswick. we took a private tour through shore trips. we made it just in time to see the sea caves. in fact, malittlebigfoot's husband was in the 2nd sea cave when the tour guide hollered for him to get out now as the tide was coming in and in minutes that tide made the caves unaccessible. unfortunately, the ship's excursion buses had not even gotten there yet so they missed that experience completely. then they took us to a lighthouse, some miscellaneous stops, the reversing tides, a city tour and dropped us off at the market place almost 5 hours later where we shopped and walked a short walk back to the ship. weather was chilly until the sun came out and then it was pretty nice but take that jacked with you on to land.

I'm not pat but she was in our van :D. We used shoretrips.com which subcontracted(?) to freedom tours. We had Trina for a tour guide while the rest of our group was in a different van and had Peter. If you could request I'd higly reccomend either of them. All I can say about them is WOW!! they sure did know their stuff. Either way if you want to stop to take pics all you have to do is ask. We found Trina to be VERY flexible. There were many times during the excursion I felt like we made the itinerary as to what was next. Very nice touch.

Definitely go to the top deck....as high up as possible...The Sun Deck, maybe? You will be so close to the Verranzano Bridge you will think you are going to hit it. Don't worry if you have early seating btw, the expect you to be late as they know where you are and what you are doing.

No, no supper club on Triumph. And I had it in my review that somehow the mid ship pool was heated. The Aft pool was freezing. The forward pool and baby pool was freezing. But the mid ship pool was almost hot. The kids had a "Swimming Under The Stars" night and there was steam coming off of it because it was so cold outside, but very toasty in that pool.

 

So I don't know how it was heated. But for 4 days we were able to swim in that pool. :D

You will have a nice view of the Statue of Liberty right from your balcony if you are on the starboard side. Right after you pass the statue you could run up to the highest deck (if there's any room left up there by that time!) in time to pass under the Verranzano if you want the very best view of that. It does look like it's going it hit!

Never been much of cruise ship pool swimmer, but a toasty pool sounds very appealing.

Sea day continued...

 

One thing I forgot to mention that happened this day was the sighting of wales and dolphins. I didn't expect to see either since we were going north but was delighted to see them. We saw a few (3-4) whales and 10-20 dolphins on the first sea day. We also saw 20-25 whales and 75 or so dolphins the second sea day. Both happened in the morning and the second dolphin sighting had them in pods of about 6-12. I even sighted a baby one that was 3-4 foot long. I'd post the pics we took of these but the clarity leaves alot to be desired. Here's one of the better ones. Either way it surely excited both DW and I.

To avoid this...Carnival should raise the price by $10/person/day...and have a "no tipping allowed" policy.

I completely agreed, too many extra these days, from flying,c ar rental to cruising. why don't they just add them to the final price? that way we know exactly how much each will cost.

I disagree.........as long as they call them tips or gratuities, it should be up to the customer to make that decision......

If they add it as a service charge that is a different story.....

 

That's exactly what I think Carnival should do - rename it a service charge and make it mandatory unless there is evidence of an unresolved complaint/problem.
