Right at the board walk area, the beach is pretty wavey. There is usually a breeze/wind and I would wear water shoes in the water as there is some limestone in places.

A few miles down, there are a few nicer beach areas that are more protected.

If you rent a bike, you can easily ride the board walk to popular area that has a huge tidal pool that is protected from the waves. Only about 3 feet deep, but very popular.
