Syorkscruisers Posted June 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2009 We are going on oceana on 27th june 2009 can anyone give us any info on the port of lisbon please? Are things within walking distance, things to do etc.... The 'expo 98 site on your own tour' we had booked on has been cancelled due to 'operational reasons' whatever this means so we would just like some info on what we can do. Thanks
Noblemount Posted June 14, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2009 There is normally a Complimentary Coach Service from the Port to Lisbon itself .Lisbon is walkable.Try the Grilled Sardines and there are some lovely old Coffee Houses.Tram rides popular.:)
LibraLass41 Posted June 14, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2009 Ahhhh, Lisbon, A great sail-in and out for starters..... see these photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/AuroraPartyCruiseSueV/1stCruiseCanariesOnArcadiaMay06#5113825348096492530 You sail under the suspension bridge and it seems the funnel only just makes it underneth, there is a statue of christ like the one in Brazil on the side of the inlet, when you arrive at Lisbon a free shuttle bus will take you into the square. Here you can buy tickets if you want for a tram ride around the town, I think there are two or 3 different routes....we did 'old Lisbon' with a stop at the tram museum, see photos. Also try Lisbon tarts - deep filled custard tarts in flaky pastry not soggy shortcrust like here, for about 1e, ideal with a good filter coffee - perhaps after the sardines.,
Johnthed0g Posted June 14, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 14, 2009 Agree with all said especially those tarts yummee!! we bought a box of 6 & took them back on board. We have been there several times as most cruises seem to stop there, done a couple of trips but now just get the shuttle & have a wander. Depends where the ship docks but if she berths near the bridge there is a row of restaurants by the marina this is a good spot for lunch (can be expensive) sitting in the sun feeding the fish. scrozuk Posted June 14, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 14, 2009 I agree also. We found this stop to be the best out the lot last year, and after taking a shuttle transfer, walked around, did the tower, bought some port from a great shop that wasn't one of the 'guaranteed' cruise shops. Lovely city, lots to see, nice and clean and friendly. Recommend you take the red tram to take you around the city, giving you some amazing sights. One other thing you must do is be outside early and look on the portside on the way into Lisbon, because there are some wonderful sights. Go to the Wikipedia page for Lisbon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisbon, what you want to see are the Belem Tower, Monument to the Discoverers, and of course, pass under the 25th April Bridge, which was amazing when we were on Independence of the Seas last year. All in all, a great city that I think you'd never get tired of. Scrozuk
balf Posted June 15, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 15, 2009 Here's what we did. Took the free shuttle from the ship which dropped us right next to the train station. Bought return tickets to Sintra. Got on the circular bus in Sintra that took us right up to the mountain top palace. Had a great day there, well worth the visit, then just did the reverse and back to the ship. Of course we did not see much of Lisbon, but we have done that on many previous visits. David.
LibraLass41 Posted June 15, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 15, 2009 Sounds good if you have been to Lisbon many times before, but if its their 1st visit, I would say perhaps see Lisbon?
tom_uk Posted June 15, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 15, 2009 We visited Lisbon for the first time last October on our Ventura cruise, and we did a 'Walking tour of Lisbon' excursion, which was excellent. It was a really good introduction to the major sections of central Lisbon.

LibraLass41 Posted June 16, 2009 #10 Share Posted June 16, 2009 You can get a taxi from the ship to the beach, and I also think there will be a pando coach trip to the beach as well. I take it your 'beach people then? Shame you want to give Lisbon a miss:confused:
DEEDIA Posted June 16, 2009 #11 Share Posted June 16, 2009 Good Hard Rock Cafe, loads of Beggers, drug selling on the streets, Hard Rock Cafe is worth it all, No really Lisbon is very nice and quite walkable.
History addict Posted June 16, 2009 #12 Share Posted June 16, 2009 The view from the castle at the top of the hill is amazing. I think you can catch a tram most of the way up but we walked and it wasn't too steep. You can see the whole of the bay and the town from up there including the bridge and the ship!
