Bringing Water Aboard

Recommended Posts

I am a big water drinker. Considering I drink a gallon a day I was wondering if anyone has ever seen someone bring a case of water aboard. Considering the charge of $4 a bottle I hear, I thought it would allow me to spend my money on real drinks!

well they charge for bottles of water, but glasses of water, available in the dining areas, are free. Bring your own bottle and fill it up in Windjammer.

Joanne and Fred,

Sailed on the Serenade last November out of San Juan. Strapped a whole case of water to one of those collapsible wheeled luggage carriers and brought it with our carry-on stuff. Didn't even attempt to conceal it. Nobody said a word to us.

Go for it! Ship's "tap" water may be free, but it sure doesn't taste very good.

We brought bottled water aboard the Mariner without any trouble. Brought like 12 500 mL bottles in a duffle bag.

I always take my own water. I take enough to get me to the first port then buy more there, and then more at each port, that way I dont have to carry so much up front. I cant drink the ship water because of the salt content. I blow up like a balloon!

Depending upon your ports - you can buy water in the grocery stores closest to the ship, that way you don't have to drag huge amounts when you board. There's a small grocery store in St Thomas (your mid week) in the mall right at the dock, a larger one about 2 blocks away, and a KMart just past that . . .
Also - maybe a travel sized Brita-type filter and look for the drinking fountains with filters on the ship (as opposed to right out of the tap)?

Buy a Brita sports bottle if you don't like the ships water. It does weigh much or take up very much room in your luggage.

thank you all for the advice. I'll some with me and can stock up more in St Thomas or St Martin.

sf2 - I have a brita water bottle and a few new filters which I haven't used. I was just sceptical about drinking the ship water. Have you used a brita bottle?

The ship water is created using the same methods and equipment that many coastal towns use. It is safe to drink. The water in the dining rooms does not taste like the water at the tap, for whatever reason. could not tell it from other water served at restaraunts.

Exactly as cmason says - if you're drinking the coffee, tea and using ice cubes - you're taking ship water into your system. For just drinking water - I've used the brita pitcher/bottle. It mostly takes away taste/smell. Look for drinking fountains on deck 2 where you get off the ship. Also ask any of the singers, dancers or sports/spa people as they go through GALLONS of water themselves . . ..

I brought water on our recent cruise - $3.95 is a bit much IMO. Next year I will probably bring more or I may take other's suggestions and use a brita water bottle.

It's amazing what people bring on board!

Let me amend . . . On Voyager class the 'filtered' drinking fountain are on deck 1 - still, where you're debarking - generally close to the restrooms. Also ask your room attendant - as the ice machines on every floor are filtered too.

We always have one suitcase w/ nothing but water. On the home trip it is packed with goodies we were able to purchase with the money saved on buying water.
