Snorkeling Freeport

no, they did not provide transportation when I went, it actually seems like they have improved since I was there. There were no packages like it is offered now, you also didn't have to call/email and let them know you were coming, but IMO that will make it better for you!

Let them come pick you up, the taxis on the island are very interesting. We had to wait 30 minutes to get a taxi because we had to wait until there were more people who wanted to go to paradise cove (there were only 4 in my group). Then the van that took us there seemed like it might fall apart on its trip. They dropped us off and asked when to pick us up and the other people that joined us agreed on a time, that time comes and they show up in a limo to pick us up! It was so random, and some of the places you pass through on the island, you don't want to be in a limo in. But it was an enjoyable experience I must say!

Book with http://sanddollarcruise.com/ $45 pp and it docks next to the straw market for food and shopping. You have to travel away from the pier since it is an industrial area. We did it 6/17/09 and they were well worth it. Another family saw it here and agreed. A couple had their excursion fell through and joined us and were so thankful that I recommend it to them!

Paradise cove is the only place I know where you can see much when you snorkle from the beach. Whether you buy a "package" for the day from them or take a taxi, it will take at least 1/2 hour to get there and they charge for using their beach. Swim out 100 yards or so to Dead Man's Reef.

Alternate: If you taxi into Port Lucaya, you can go out on a variety of snorkle boats and there is lots to do in that area. These boats go out about 1 mile to the reef for some great snorkeling.

If you choose to go there to snorkle, we recommend Reef Tours. http://www.bahamasvacationguide.com/reeftours/index.html

they have variety of tours including snorkle for 1 hour and sail for 1 hour.

If there are some in your party that do not snorkle, suggest the "semi-submarine". You can snorkle at the reef or those who do not want to get in the water can watch thru glass sides in the hull, where the divers feed the fish next to the window.

Also Unexo offers variety of snorkle, dives and swim with the dolphins.
