Travel Insurance questions

E&B

Recommended Posts

I've never purchased travel insurance before, because most of our trips have been in the summer when the chance of blizzrds is relatively low. However, we're sailing the FOS from Port Canaveral in February and this time I definitely want some!

I've looked at insuremytrip.com and it seems that either I'm reading the options incorrectly or I just can't find the coverage I'm looking for. We sail on a Sunday and DH and I were planning on flying down Friday evening just in case there are weather delays. Even so, with the airlines cutting back on flights I do realize that if there were a sever storn we still could miss the ship if we fly on Friday. But, it seems that the travel delay/interuption clauses max out at about $1,750 benefit. This trip for the 4 of us is costing $7000 and I really would like full coverage. Am I reading the policies wrong? Can anyone recommend a company that would have the coverage I'm looking for?

I think that's $1,750 per person. They

take the total trip cost ($7,000) and divide

it by the number of travellers (4). You can

verify this with the Insuremytrip people. They

are very good at anwering questions. Think they

might have a live chat function.

I go with Travel Guard-if you book the Gold Plan-kids under 18 go free; I did upgrade the medical insurance (wasn't too bad) this way, if you do have an emergency-it's your decision to go back home. You should insure all dollar costs and they do divide by the # of adults over 18.

We had one of our bags lost/stolen back into Atlanta and they gave me a check after Delta messed around with their payment.

Luckily, both my son and I packed our clean clothes together; so we both got full coverage!

Many travel insurances do NOT cover weather related issues, there are many caveats so please read them carefully before you purchase for that reason.

Also keep in mind that any time of year can suffer weather delays, from thunderstorms and the such.

I agree with crusinmom1, bug time. Look at the medical insurance upgrade. Most major medical policies do not cover major medical emergencies or evacuation back to a hospital while on a cruise. This can be devistating if you need to be flown back to the US. A friend of ours was evacuated from a ship after a heart attack and the evac alone was over $11,000! Check out Travel Guard. I've used them for 15 years now. They are great.

Call Steve at http://www.tripinsurancestore.com - he has always been very helpful and can set you up with the policy you really need.
