skipping the muster drill

Recommended Posts

I'm sure he would be disembarked if he really tried this

Any with NO refund at that. Really folks like the guy you are speaking about should not be on cruises as they are a cause of trouble for all of the other pax. Probably the same person who is last aboard and expects the ship to wait on them....

We do have one cruise where the "lifejacket" photo is missing from the scrapbook. It was a TA on the Navigator. We took a redeye from Portland to Miami, and when we finally boarded we passed out and woke up as the captain was thanking everyone for participating in the muster drill. We were very embarrassed and fully expected to be called to a make up drill. We never heard anything--not even a letter. Scary that we could sleep through alll that!!

They're not the most fun thing, but I do wish people would show up on time. I've only been on 5 cruises, and have had one delayed because people didn't show up for muster. At least that's what the staff told us.

I've never skipped one and don't plan on it. Where else can I get seriously dorky pics like these? *ROSE?!?!* *I'M NOT LEAVING WITHOUT YOU JACK!*

Two cruises ago on RCCL two people were escorted off the ship for refusing to muster drill...how do I know...they were part of group I was with. There is reference (use to be) on CC which turned out ugly as they were bashing the people on here who told them that is was OK to skip the drill, this was after the fact. The couple has never received a refund and also had to pay a few hundred dollars to get their luggage shipped to them.

Why would you even think about skipping something so important and mandatory...it is for your own safety.

I can honesty say we do not attend. Not because I am too good to go. I will attend every muster drill as soon as they do not require me to wear the life preserver during the drill. I have an issue with the cleanliness. I see sweaty people dripping their sweaty germs all over them, they smell, then they expect me to put that on. I don't think so. On a airplane I watch a video on how to buckle my chair.....I can easily watch a video on how to put the life jacket on.

I have been on over 80 cruises and have never seen a ship get delayed due to the muster drill.

Yes, US Coast Guard requires.....however when I went on my Hawaiian cruise, our ship did not do the muster drill until day 2 at sea...........good thing we didn't sink overnight...........

Although I appreciate your honesty I still think you are wrong not to go just because you are scared of germs. Tell me this - when the ship starts sinking are you going to refuse to put it on or will you run around looking for a sanitizer station first?:p I would say at least go and try to explain that you cannot put it on because you have an issue. I know you feel you are sticking to your principles but you may have made a lot of the very posters on this thread stand around waiting for you - it's just not a very nice thing to do to others - even if you feel you aren't inconvienencing the other passengers I'm sure you are. I hate waiting around in a crowded room while they look for the non-compliant passangers. I will say, however, I've had a lounge as a muster station every time :D so I've been lucky with that and I also take pictures as my official cruise start!

Well, your issue will soon be resolved. They are running a trial on Majesty now where you do not wear or bring your lifejacket to the drill. You still have the drill, but without the vest. It will soon be rolled out fleet wide. The reason is that Oasis & Allure are planned to not have vests in the cabin...only at the muster stations and in the boats (all ships do this now anyway)

That will be so nice. Don't mind the muster, just hate the jackets. That is the one thing I can say I liked better on Princess, you carried them, but did not have to wear them. They are way to bulky. So it will be nice if they go to this fleetwide. I will be very happy:)

We rarely go to the muster drill, my FIL talks to the cabin boy before hand and slips him a "few". They usually don't bother us.

But on one last cruise we were having a party in my FIL suite when they tried to make us with that muster drill thing. We told the person we didn't have to go but they insisted. Well things got kind of ugly, we demanded to see the Captain but they said he was "Too Busy". Needless to say, we did attend but we refused to wear those life preservers. Now thay I have been to it, I won't need to go anymore on my next cruise.

Some people just think rules don't apply to them.

I have to approach this thread from a different angle. The muster drill is conducted for the safety and well being of ALL the passengers and crew aboard any ship. I know for a fact that I would want to know where to go and how to be prepared for an emergency. To me, it is a way of being re-certified to protect me and my family.

Although it may be a slight inconvience (to some), when a time would come that I need this knowledge I believe it is worth a few minutes of my time. I will compare it to being re-certified in CPR, I hope I never have to use it, but if I do, I will know what to do and what is expected of me.

Those that choose not to attend would be the first in line demanding they have the right to taken care of first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, My question to these individuals is: Do you feel that you are properly prepared to save yourself in the advent of an emergency, or would you be slipping a fellow passenger a "few" to take care of you and neglect his or her family????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

When my daughters were in their teens, they loved the muster drill. When they saw a cute guy, they immediately knew his cabin number by the life jacket he was wearing. Then they'd make a point of walking past his cabin on the way to the pool...hoping to accidentally bump into him! Might as well find out that "crucial information" the very first day.

I just had an idea. What if everyone who skipped the Muster Drill was required to attend a screening of "Titanic" instead of going to the the opening night's show? Or maybe perhaps before disembarking at the first port of call?

This is appropriate to read today. On the Princess boards a fire on the Royal Princess is being reported and everyone had to go to their muster stations. It is serious if something happens.

I like it about as much as anyone else. But I do respect why it is held, and you can have some fun waiting for it to start.

This poster posted the IDENTICAL post 15 months ago on another muster drill thread.

Ignore him. He is either on Cruise Critic to stir the pot (all of his posts are like this) or he is irremedial.

I agree with you. Apparently the poster was just waiting for an opportunity to re-post their absurd total disregard for safety rules that are put in place to protect everyone. These are the same people who, in an emergency would be aimlessly wandering around screaming, " What do we do...where do we go?"

2 cruises ago the cabin steward said that because of my Platinum Status

I was given the okay to miss the drill this time, 1 cruise after that I pretended I was asleep when the steward knocked on the door, and the lasy cruise I threw on my lifejacket and just dealt with like everybody else//

Haha that's hilarious! That's something I would have done a few years ago XD And hey, why not? Did they ever succeed in stalking him down?

Hilarious! Maybe the Poseidon adventure too.

Perhaps the OLD titanics or the old Poseidon ... slightly less action packed (without the better effects).

Since we don't want everyone missing the drill just to watch the movies!

I was on the Carnival Miracle back in April - same thing - nobody checked anything - at our muster station, they didn't even check to make sure the life vests were being worn properly.

Nope, they didn't last week on my CCL cruise. It was a free for all. The crew member at our station didn't have a clip board to write down numbers. They didn't organize people by height, which is usually what I see happening on RCCL ships, so the kids and shorties didn't get up front and were smothered by the taller people.

I couldn't imagine skipping one though.

Or maybe make them read "Plague Ship" by Clive Cussler. That would been real punishment... I bought the book on a whime to read on deck since it had a picture of a cruise ship braking in half and sinking, it was a terrible book. YMMV

Don't know if your story is true. If it is, this is a foolish and dangerous thing to do. Now, RCL has your name. And why would you want to get the cabin stewards in trouble?

First I want to say I am a natural born American and only speak English (and not very good I might add. ;) ).

The one thing that really ticks me off during the Muster is when those of us that speak English start talking while the Muster information is being repeated for those that do not speak English. Most of those individuals are quiet while our language is being spoken, we should be kind enough to shut up while they are receiving their instructions in their language.

Sorry for griping, this one just really pi$$es me off.

Tim
