Wyndham/Sheraton Review

Hi all. My husband and I just returned from a fabulous cruise aboard the Carnival Miracle. We stopped in Nassau this past Sunday. We had plans of going to Breezes, however, we were told they were not selling day passes that day. In any case, we headed to the Wyndham. You can get to the Wydham by taking the #10 Jitney for $1.25 per person. We walked from Breezes. We walked into the lobby and asked to purchase the day passes. They were $40 a piece and included a buffet lunch (inside), towels, chairs, and use of both the Wyndham and Sheraton properties. We went to the Wyndham pool area first and walked up to the outdoor bar. We ordered a strawberry margarita and a beer for my husband. The bill was approximately $12. We brought our drinks over to loungers near the bar area and the pool. Right away I realized there were a million irritating flies. We thought that was because of being close to the bar area, so we moved our seat. However, anywhere around this particular pool was filled with flies. So we decided to try walking next door to the Sheraton. We found lounge chairs next to the pool with the swim up bar and there were not any flies here! YIPPEE!! Now I was happy. I noticed a stand on the beach with floating mats so I went up and got one for the day to float around in the pool. There was no charge, however, I tipped the man $2 because he carried it up to the pool for me. I was happy!! I floated and drifted in and out of sleep. The water in the pool was nice and warm. Later I asked my husband if he would like to try parasailing. He was a bit hesitant as he is afraid of heights, but did agree anyhow. We found the stand on the beach and it was $60 per person and if we flew in the air together we could stay up there for 15 minutes. We wanted to secure our belongs so we walked back to the Wyndham and went into the gym area and asked about renting a locker for the day. It was supposed to cost non hotel guests $8 for the day (you would receive $12 back at the end of the day because you have to leave a key deposit of $20)......however, the nice lady gave us back the full $20 at the end of the day. We then headed back to the parasailing area, filled out our forms, paid and were directed to a pier to wait for a boat to pick us up. When the boat arrived there was a gentlemen who was already picked up from Sandals Resort and we headed over to Breezes where we picked up 3 more passengers. The man from Sandals went single first. Then it was time for my husband and I to give it a try. I can't begin to tell you how excited I was as we were lifted into the sky. My husband was a bit afraid....I let go and touched him and heard a scream of "Don't touch me!" LOL He was fine though after a few minutes. At the end when the driver of the boat was letting us down he dipped us into the water and dragged us along....almost like body surfing......that was great fun!...well except for the fact that the bottom of my bikini came down and I mooned all of the Bahamas. After the parasailing it started getting dark so we decided to go in for our lunch. The lunch was really good. They had many choices...a fresh cut ham, pork roast, fried chicken, cornish hens, macaroni and cheese, a salad bar with fresh shrimp cocktail, a spot with cold cuts, etc....and many other items. It was a nice time. We then headed back outside and it was really getting dark in the sky. It started raining and we made our way under the covered outdoor bar at the Sheraton.....to avoid the flies at the Wyndham. We ordered the same exact drinks that we got at the Wyndham and paid over $15 here. Weird...but I guess there is a fee for no flies. After the rain we decided to head back to the ship.....its easy to catch the Jitney back right in front of the Wyndham. Oh, forgot to mention that the Wyndham has a pool with a slide, but the slide was closed this day....no clue why. Overall, this was a great day and I would do it again.

Wow....thanks for the great review! We are thinking about doing the same thing next month! I do have a couple of questions for you.....

How was the beach? This will probably be our only chance to swim in the ocean and sit in the sand. Are there nice lounge chairs on the beach? Any place to get a cold drink?

Did you see the casino? Is it close by?

Was it crowded?

Any idea how long the bus ride was? What time did you arrive at the Wyndham?

I know the $40 per day includes a buffet lunch. Is that at either place or just the Wyndham? Is that where you ate?

Thanks, again, for posting this review!! I will look forward to your reply.

There are 2 beach areas ...one at the Wyndham....skip that.....just a small lagoon like area...and one next door at the Sheraton....which is literally like a one or two minute walk......The beach at the Sheraton is pretty nice. There are lounge chairs on the beach and plenty of them. The outdoor bars are right there also.....everything is right there...no real walking at all involved. The buffet lunch is at the Wyndham only at the indoor buffet. This was the part I was negative about at first because I wanted to stay outside...but it really worked out for us and it was good. You can purchase other food outside if you choose to, but we opted to eat the food that was included. The casino was next to the restaurant where you eat. I don't gamble so I only glanced at it......looked good to me. lol I had been here in the past and enjoyed the slide at the Wyndham that time...but it wasn't open this time, but if it is, give it a try.

Thank you, Brenda, for your quick reply!! I'll bet you are deep in "cruise withdrawl" by now!! When is your next one???

By looking at the map, it looks like the Wyndham/Sheridan is a little ways from the dock. How long of a cab or bus ride is it?

Did you pay cash for your day or should we use our credit card??

I think we arrive in Nassau by 9 or so. Can we just go over to the resorts that early? Did it get crowded later in the day?

Thanks, again, for your help!! I'll be watching for your reply!:D

Yes, I am in cruise withdrawal!!! Unfortunately, we are waiting until next June to go again and that time we are bringing our daughter who will be 21 and son who will be 8....so it will be a bit different this time......hopefully the little guy behaves himself! LOL It took about 15 minutes to get there...not bad at all. Yes, at 9 you can go right over. It never gets crowded. You can pay with cash or credit card.

Brenda- Thanks for your review. Wonder what kind of flies were there? When we were at the Wyndham in April-for the buffet-we didn't see any on our walk over to the Sheraton. Do you think they are seasonal?

By the way, we also thought the Wyndham buffet was very good with extra choices like asparagus vinaigrette and basil tomatoes.

No clue about the flies. I can tell you that the guests who were staying at the Wyndham said the flies were bothering them the entire time they were there. I think its weird that right next door they are more controlled though.
