imae39 Posted June 20, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2009 We have just booked holiday cruise on the Emerald. My husband and I have been on five Princess cruises and my daughter and family will join us for their first cruise for the holidays. (17 year old grandson and 14 year old granddaughter.) We so hope they enjoy cruising as much as we do. We have done 28 cruises. Questions: We have a balcony cabin and also my daughter and granddaughter. Our grandson and his dad are in a cabin across the hall. Felt it would be too crowded with four in cabin and also need the second bathroom. Can the connecting dividers on the balcony be unlocked so the doors/dividers can be open? Is the library well stocked so don't have to bring onboard reading material? Do the treadmills in gym have tv's mounted on them? What time does gym open? Who is the Captain on the Emerald - Captain Romano? Thanks for answers to these questions. imae39 Posted June 20, 2009 Author #2 Share Posted June 20, 2009 One more question -- the jogging track - how many times around to equal a mile??
rdsqrl Posted June 21, 2009 #3 Share Posted June 21, 2009 The balcony dividers have a small door (about half the size of the divider) that can indeed be opened. However, if the two cabins are separated by a fire wall, the balcony divider cannot be opened. If your cabins have what appears to be a doorway in the hallway between them, or if the numbers begin in a different hundred series (you're in cabin 2XX, they have 3XX), then you've got a firewall between you and so no connecting balcony. The library is pretty well-stocked, but the "popular" fiction selections get checked out pretty quickly. If you're particular, I would most assuredly bring my own reading material and not count on finding something. Don't know about the availability of individual television sets on the treadmills. The jogging track is pretty small -- seems like it's about 242 times around for a mile! Seriously, I don't know -- if I feel the need to jog, I do it on the Promenade Deck so I don't get dizzy from going around in circles.
ggprincess2004 Posted June 21, 2009 #4 Share Posted June 21, 2009 Commodore Romano is the master of the Emerald, whether he will be on board for your cruise depends upon his vacation schedule. But he and his family make Ft. Lauderdale home, so there is a good chance he will be captaining during the school year.

The treadmills on the Emerald have indiviudal TVs.
Treven Posted June 21, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 21, 2009 When I was on the Emerald this past April I would often sit out on the Promenade deck to read. It appeared the Promenade deck was quite popular with joggers; no matter what time of day I was there, there was always joggers & because of the width, it never seemed crowded. imae39 Posted June 21, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted June 21, 2009 Glad to hear that can joggers can jog on the Promendade. Do they go back and forth as it appears it is not a wraparound deck? '242' times around that jogging track would be too much for me too. Nice to have the individual tv's on the treadmills.

BayCalif-Ariz R Us Posted June 21, 2009 #9 Share Posted June 21, 2009 Actually in the front of the ship, you go up stairs from the Promenade deck to the Emerald deck and then around. Alan
