Bodger Posted July 2, 2009 #26 Share Posted July 2, 2009 Look for FRED the Bus in Halifax. FRED stands for Free Rides Everywhere Downtown and is a nice way to see the downtown area. FRED runs every 20 minutes and the full circuit takes 40 minutes. The schedule indicates it stops at Pier 21/Cruise Ship Pavilion at 10, 30 and 50 minutes past the hour from 10:30AM to 5PM. BTW Pier 21 is the Canadian equivalent to Ellis Island. Bodger
Mask Posted July 4, 2009 #27 Share Posted July 4, 2009 The boardwalk began in the 80's and has been growing ever since. The newest part is near the cruiseship terminal, but it has been there for years. Just an FYI: it was there in 2001. That being said a lot of the boardwalk was destroyed during Hurrican Juan in 2003 (here's a sample: http://www.novaweather.net/Hurricane_Juan_files/30.jpg) but has been rebuilt. The museum is about a 15 minute walk and I would recommend walking and taking in the sights, unless it is raining. A great way to see Halifax is to just follow the boardwalk and stop wherever you feel like it.
