Cruise Review Triumph 6/15-6/20

Last few pics. The lido deck looked like this all week. I tried to lean over and get the crashing waives, and this is a picture of outside deck three. You get there by exiting at the lobby bar. Finally a pic of Little Italy on Sunday; they were having a street fair. The weather was great.

Did you experience any of the complaints from others on this cruise such as, horendous lines at the buffets, large rude groups, broken beverage stations, and elevators not running?

I read some of the complaints on the cruise before this one...

I agree with Tony about the people on this cruise being very nice but I think that has to do with the fact that this is not a destination frequented by many young, party people. There were quite a few seniors on this cruise. So the disco was pretty empty late at night. We have taken cruises to Mexico and the Caribbean and yes there was a difference in the people on this cruise. I thought it was pretty nice although my kids and their friends wished there had been more young people on the cruise... the good news is that they did not stay out until 2-3 in the morning like on some cruises with lots of kids.

As far as the buffet.. I thought the lines were not bad .. again in comparison to some cruises we've been on. My kids did mention that there were a few broken beverage stations but they just used others.

We were on the Lido deck so only used the elevators to go to dinner or the 5th floor... we did not notice any problems with the elevators.

Speaking of dinner... we thought our food was actually pretty good.. maybe because we had great table mates and waiters.. I still have not stopped craving the warm chocolate melting cake:)

I think the only thing that I missed on this cruise was the nice weather on sea days and in the evening. We are use to hanging out on the Lido deck in the sunshine or in the warm night air but it was just too cold and windy to do this... so we spent time in doors in the casino, the covered pool area or at a few bars instead. It was still very nice since we returned to 90 degree weather here in So. Cal.

I'll say it is a different type of cruise than one on the Carribean. Different music, different cruisers, different weather. Living in a beach town in southwest Florida I found it very refreshing. We are looking at our next cruise, horwever, and its out of Miami... so back to the booze cruise baby!

A call drink was 5.13 with tip. A double was 10.26 with tip. A grey goose double on the rocks served by the best bar maid in the Oxford bar was 18.00. My complaint was the little amount they poured. It was a measured shot glass and didn't come to the line. Cash tips, asking, and my pretty blue eyes couldn't get a better pour. I never complain to them though. I just order more and pay for it. The double worked; I guess. Its actually the worste drinks I've evr had on a ship, but again no worries just order more.

worlds way bar had GREAT drinks, yes they use a shotglass, but was always over. even the main lobby was a good drink. jack and coke was 6.41. coors light was 4.31 w/tip. if you buy a drink while still in NYC you will pay tax on it. but to us, no biggy. we weren't waiting lol. this was our vacation. you have a good attitude tony, you make the best of your trip even if there is a little hiccup here and there, that is how we are. i found the food decent and some excellant we ate dinner everynight in the dining room. lunch on lido. breakfast first day in dining room, never made it back lol we always ended up on lido. lol. we also had an inside, deck 2 as far forward as you can go lol 2202. a 1A cabin and it was great. even with the rocking lol. we laughed and my friend was laughing but would say.. "stop the rockin" lol.

Hi Tony,

Enjoyed your review. I took a few kids on a field trip going on the Circle Line that goes completely around Manhattan that day. We all waved at the Triumph as we were leaving and coming back! It was fun to read the experience of someone on the ship.

Tony,

Enjoyed the rest of your review. I need to start writing mine. I agree with you that the meat was tasteless. I found the filet to be the best, but mine had some fatty areas that I couldn't eat. I tried the prime rib and the flat iron steak and was not impress. My friend had a piece of flat iron steak that looked like a filet. She said her was very good, mine was not. I probably should have asked for another, but I had also ordered the shrimp dish, which was very good and I wasn't hungry.

I also thought it was very cool that St. John had tunnels to everywhere. It made it very easy to get from one area to another.

We were lucky and did not have a rough sea day. One day the sun was shining and the other it was very foggy and chilly. The sun came out around 7 pm just in time to set.

You're right... it was very refreshing not to be in the hot, humid weather... We too are looking at another cruise, most likely on the Pacific Ocean side... at the end of the summer... we usually take a land vacation but with the great prices on cruises... it is so much more economical... and yes I'm sure it will be more of a party cruise.... but we enjoy those too:)

We love our pedway system in the winter time. :D:D It makes life bearable.

I was amused to see us referred to as a quaint village. (not by you, but by the OP) The population of Saint John is about 65,000 in the city and if you count the suburbs---about 120,000. I would agree with "quaint" , but not a village. I am pleased to hear she found us very friendly. We try. :)

Its a really nice ship. It seems designed for colder weather cruises. the pool is very well enclosed, it has the convertable top, and there is much inside. or maybe I just noticed it was inside because we spent the cruise inside.

Wow! I can't belive you found this post. :)

In a short reply I think the Triumph is well made for colder climates. Everything seems to be inside or or blocked from the outside. I've read some people saying it is hard to get around; I did not notice that. Most of my Carnival experience is on the Sensation and her sister ships, so the Triumph seemed larger and newer to me. I have been on Rccl Voyager and it was a much different experience. It reminded me of hanging out in a mall. I hope this helps. This is a broad enough question to start a thread... I think.
