We always try to have the lowest bill! We bring our own, book our own excursions and pay cash for anything else. Last cruise was $21.00...but of course we had port charges refunded which basically paid for grats. On a normal 7-day cruise, we are usually around $50.00 plus grats.

do u have to pay for the camp thing for the children?

No charge, but you do customarily tip the staff - that sort of tip is not included in the amount auto-charged to sail and sign (just wait staff and room stewards.) If the kids are only there a little you tip a little and if they are there all day every day, you tip a lot. That is, if you like the service. But if you didn't you probably would not let your kids go there.

Some services they do charge for, like babysitting after normal camp carnival hours.

We bring booze and do private tours whenever we can - I have not been happy with the ship's tours most of the time.

We usually buy a photo but really you can take your own photos so I don't know why so many people buy the expensive ones. DW is to blame for that, if it were up to me I would not buy photos.

We usually end up around $200 - $250 total on the S & S which is tips, a few things from the shops, a bit of bingo (DW again, I despise bingo) and a night at the specialty restaurant.

If we give money to the needy folks in the casino we bring cash for that, so no impact to the S & S bill. I would hate myself if I ever lost more than $100 a cruise in the casino so we stop if we lose that much. We always lose except for once we put our last $15 on a roulette number and hit and we ended up even for the week. Woohoo! Breaking even is an incredible outcome in my book.

We pay cash for private excursions, so plan on spending about $50 per person on each port stop. I can't believe these folks who don't spend any money in port - you can only see so much walking and riding the bus. Usually not the best parts of town, either. You need a guide most of the and a vehicle to get you around to see as much as you can and that costs money.

I budget $1200.00 for a seven day cruise for 2. Over half of that is DH's Beer budget. I myself only have 3 or 4 drinks the whole cruise. I like to shop so I always budget myself shopping. Add the Supper Club and Tips to that also. Luckily we don't gamble or we couldn't afford a vacation. We also usually do our own excursions.

Our ships bill is always small at the end.

We do every port. We do try to take public transit if possible. Taxi or city buses.

This trip our most costly day will be Fins & Flippers. $20 each. We snorkle in Grand Cayman and Coz and Roatan. Might not get off the ship in Belize.

Ok so gift that we buy each other. Before we get on the ship I have flower hair clips for the girls this year and DH get a pin that says_Party begins here! i have gotten:

Cards, jewerly (charms, necklace, earrings) anything that looks like it came from a beach resort, diamonds too!, night gown,(silk boxer type for DH), Beach type printed T-shirt, candy, sunglasses, new flip flops. The gift can be very simple or extra nice. We tend to do expensive thing for formal night. My DH surpised me with renewing our wedding vows( and a new wedding ring) last cruise. This trip I will take the family to Fins & Flippers as the surprise gift with some cash to spend on what ever stuff they want while there.

I try to make everyday special. A new game to play with on deck as we watch the water pass buy.

that is a few ideas

We do keep our ship bill cost low but we have a wonderful time.

Enjoy

5 day on Fantasy w/ 2 ports (Cozumel and Progreso) Last year (8/23/08)

Our final S&S bill was 956.00. We pre-paid tips and the one shore excurision we did. We drank, took pictures brough booze, and did whatever we wanted. We had a BLAST! Looking back we could have spent only 300.00 and still had a good time.

This past cruise we went on, we had a final bill of..... *goes to look up*......$559.47. This was with prepaid gratuities and 3 prepaid excursions. It was mostly drinks, souvenirs, a Valentines gift, a new wedding band for the hubby since losing a lot of weight, soda card.

6 days, 4 people and we spent $976.00

This included drinks, tips, souveniers, supper club, photos, Camp Carnival babysitting fees (for mini-late night parties) and other Camp activity fees, spa services.

We tipped out xtra in cash.

4 day was $303, tips and excursions prepaid

Just off 5 day around $1250, tips and excursions prepaid.

That one day sure made a big difference LOL We had a ton of fun and had $1400 prepaid on our account between fun ship dollars and price drops so if wanted to gamble we did, dh bought lots of specialty coffees etc and didn't worry about it. We don't drink so drinking was not part of that.

I did wind up coming home with $750 in bingo winnings and $196 from the last night slot winnings so not bad in the end.

Just off Destiny 4 nights for 4 in 2 cabins, total cruise fare $1300 + $476 onboard expenses including gratuities and casino players card.

Nephew won $900 in Texas Hold'em I won $300 in Blackjack + $580 on a penny slot.

We basically were paid $4 to take this fantastic cruise, better than many 7/8 night cruises we have been on.

I can't believe I missed this thread when it first went up. I also can't believe how much some people spend on shipboard expenses!

On our Conquest 7-day cruise in March (family of four), our total bill was $93.69, excluding the auto-tips of $280. The $93 included one photo, one can of sunscreen, one extra charge from Camp Carnival and some by-the-minute internet usage.

That also doesn't include the shore excursions we prepaid ($764). We wouldn't normally spend that much for packaged tours, but Jamaica is generally considered to be a little dodgy (i.e., don't venture out on your own) and I REALLY wanted to see the Mayan ruins in Tulum near Cozumel.

Its definitely cheaper to cruise if you don't drink. ;)

You're still at almost $1200. We also count pre/post cruise travel, meals, parking and/or lodging (say $200) and $300 cash (tips for porters, excursion guides, extra tips, souveniers) for a 7-day. That's $1700 - more than we have paid for a family of four to cruise in two OVs on the Conquest.

If you get a really good cruise fare, its very tough not to double your over-all expenses.

We've spent less on some port days - but its really difficult to keep busy for an entire day for less than $50/pp. Three port days means a bare bones budget of $600 for a family of four.

For my 1st cruise of 8 days it was $270, I had tips, dry cleaning, spa & couple of drinks and a few pics.

The second cruise it was 7 day and around $200, I had tips, drinks and I think Internet fees.

For my 5 night Fascination cruise I tried to prepay what I could - prepaid gratuities and 1 excursion for $165.

The excursion was cancelled so I got a credit back on the sign & sail

$50 credit for booking in a group

Bingo charge & they applied my $120 Bingo winnings to S&S

several photos purchased

3 drinks or so a day

slot tournament entry

I bought a jacket & souvenirs on the ship

And I ended up with a sign & sail balance of $37 owed. Not bad!

We did have one of our group on the Paradise that stumbled into a bachelorette party on the ship and bought the room a couple of rounds of drinks that had a sign and sail balance of $3000+ :O

what was ur total bill at the end of the cruise and how longdid u go for?

$130 7/nights - Carnival Victory - May 31 - June 7, 2009 sailing. It pays to bring your own. I had a full service bar in my room which I purchased at the Puerto Rico Duty Free and walked on board with it. Best thing ever!

We spent I think maybe $10 and we had a $50 OBC so Carnival owed us money...lol This was on a 7 day Carribean cruise. We don't drink, use the casino and we don't book any tours from the ship. Plus we pre-pay our tips. :D
