One Day in Anchorage

It would help to know what else you are doing on your trip, and when you arrive and depart, as often the best thing to do with a free day in Anchorage is to get out of Anchorage for the day.

Check out the Visitor's Bureau site www.anchorage.net.

There is the Museum http://www.anchoragemuseum.org/, Alaska Native Heritage Center http://www.alaskanative.net/, if you're here on a Saturday or Sunday the Downtown Market http://www.anchoragemarkets.com/main.html

You could take a nice walk on the Tony Knowles Coastal trail. Enjoy a nice meal, do some shopping.

We went to the Natural History Museum (during the day we were spending in Anchorage).....we asked the lady at the desk what she would do if she just had one day in the area.

She suggested driving up to Hatcher Pass and then back the "old" route along the mountains. It was a fabulous drive; the scenery was spectacular. We just drove to the top....to the mining town and walked around then drove back down, stopping to take LOTs of pictures. Then we drove to the airport to watch float planes take off and Earthquake park to walk around.

The weather was great and we were so glad we took her advice.

Hopefully you have a car or would consider renting one.

We have one full day in Anchorage- What should we Not miss?:p

Go to the Ulu Factory in Anchorage. If your timing is right you can fish or watch others fishing in the creek right behind the building. A very scenic place to sit and eat lunch or just hang around for a while right in town.
