poolwife Posted June 30, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2009 Loved your pictures. Thank you for all that work you did. Is "The Office" in Icy Strait Point down in the town or at the dock? Also, do they have anything besides crab? My husband loves crab but I don't. I want to take him there. We will be there the first week of Sept. mountainhouse Posted June 30, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted June 30, 2009 Thanks, Sherry. I recall them selling burgers, and of course a good selection of beer. They're in Hoonah. It's a good stretch of legs from Icy Strait (tendering dock). Maybe a mile.
lawahoo2001 Posted July 1, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 1, 2009 Great photos! What kind of camera (and lenses) did you use? I assume you have a DSLR of some sort.
BayStateguppy Posted July 1, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 1, 2009 Fabulous pictures! I enjoyed your comments too! Did you walk back to ISP from Hoonah? If so, any comments about the trek back? Is it possible to stop by the bonfire on the way back from Hoonah if you walk?
mountainhouse Posted July 1, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted July 1, 2009 Thank you, both! Great photos! What kind of camera (and lenses) did you use? I assume you have a DSLR of some sort. I use a Canon 30D. I carried a 10-22mm, 24-105mm (sharp!), and a 100-400mm. Did you walk back to ISP from Hoonah? If so, any comments about the trek back? Is it possible to stop by the bonfire on the way back from Hoonah if you walk? Yes, Teresa (Glacier Wind) picked us up at Icy Strait Point (this is the facility with shops and museum where tenders dock). She took us to the marina in Hoonah - about a mile. We walked back from Hoonah. I enjoyed it. 1 couple I met on the walk said they saw a whale breech right along the shore there! The bonfire pit is next to the end of the zip line, which is a few hundred yards from ISP - opposite direction from Hoonah. Hope that all makes sense. Here's a map of ISP. Hoonah would be a mile walk to the right of where is says 'kayak station'.
drmerwoman Posted July 1, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 1, 2009 I love your pictures. Great shots! We are leaving on Saturday and going to ketchikan, skagway and jeaneu. I was wondering if you had warm/cold weather? Any packing advice? Thanks:)
mountainhouse Posted July 1, 2009 Author #8 Share Posted July 1, 2009 I love your pictures. Great shots! We are leaving on Saturday and going to ketchikan, skagway and jeaneu. I was wondering if you had warm/cold weather? Any packing advice? Thanks:) Thanks! We had 50-60F, so it was pretty nice. Cooler near glaciers, of course. I'm a backpacker, and like to travel light. I just wore a waterproof shell with a fleece jacket all the time. Would zip/unzip as temp changed. Wore nylon convertible pants (though never did change to shorts :) ), so those were windproof. I forgot my gloves. Got a nice set at Tongass (Ketchikan store on the water - 2nd floor). Windproof, with the finger tips cut off for camera work. Have a wonderful cruise! mountainhouse Posted July 1, 2009 Author #10 Share Posted July 1, 2009 Mountain house, How much was the crab at the office, we go in Aug. Thanks $17 a crab. We thought the crabs looked great (there were 6 of us from the roll call). Then the waitress comes up and says they were too small, so gave us an extra. Then the cook comes by, apologizes for the small size, and gives us another. WOW!
