We have sailed numerous times in an AE and are considering an AD . Whats the difference other than the larger balcony ...what are the AD goodies ??? :D

Not sure what all the last stuff was, but I believe the "goodies" are exactly the same for AE, AD, AC, AB cabins. Only difference is the actual cabin layout.

The ONLY difference is the balcony size. They are on a higher deck and some have reported the AD balconies do a great job catching the trash from the Great Outdoors before it gets to the AEs.

The "trash" business is so overplayed that it's getting silly. It would be nice if people would stop repeating it and scaring others away from the wonderful AD balconies (and neighboring deck 10 BA staterooms with extra-large balconies as well). The ONLY difference between an AD and AE is size of balcony. Our AD on Jade had two lounge chairs, two "regular" chairs, a side table, and plenty of room to bring another two or three chairs from the stateroom out to the balcony to host a party for six on the balcony. If balcony size is unimportant to you, get an AE and save money.

 

The picture above is of an AD at the outside of the stern on a Jewel-class ship (e.g., 10664). The AD suites toward the center of the ship (e.g., 10666) have an even larger balcony.

Finally someone who has actually sailed in an AD...I know all about the physical attributes, but than you very much, and trust me no one is scarring me away.I was referring to some of the "romance" perks, that on second thought might have been done away with, or maybe my memory is failing me..:rolleyes:...we are booked on 10666.

We have stayed in 10664 on both the Jewel and the Jade. We chose the AD over the AE because there were only staterooms above and below us (presumably quieter as a result) and on two cruises, we never had any problems such as garbage landing on the balcony from above. Highly recommend the AD suite.

Don't confuse NCL's "romance" packages (see: http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/cruiser/cmsPages.html?pageId=BonVoyageGifts#romance ), which can be ordered pre-cruise, with AD "Romance" suite perquisites. AD and AE perqs are the same.

the best bang for your buck, and the best location of all the AD or AE suites are the aft corner suites 9170 or 9670 on deck nine(cabins above and below). lowest suite category fares and best location, not to mention all the perks that come with it, make these two cabins very popular.

We had an AD on the Gem last Nov. and NO trash fell on our balcony. It was a great room.

Ditto the comments on the AD.

 

We sailed in an AD on the Jewel, the deck 10 balconies are larger and actually give a little more access to sun.

 

We had a chaise lounge on wheels and a chair. Opened the balcony to the BA next door that the rest of the family wa sin and it was like havinga 2 room suite with 2 bathrooms.

I am ready to book 10164 on the Jade for a November 2nd sailing from Istanbul to Barcelona. Will I have a problem with the weather making it impossible to seat on the balcony as it is exposed? Should I book 10666 which is more protected?

We were in 10166 and friends in 10164 on last December's Jade cruise from Barcelona to the eastern Mediterranean and back to Barcelona. We spent time on both balconies, with the door between them open throughout. There is no difference in "protection" between the two balconies. The "66" balcony is bigger than the "64," with two lounge chairs vs. one. Your choice, but I'd take the "66." The advantage to "64" is you have only one next-door neighbor.

We sailed in an AD on the Jewel in Feb 2007. Great cabin, huge balcony. There are some cabin pics in my online albums, see my link in my signature.

 

My only advice, have the room steward remove the bench at the foot of the bed. It gets in the way and trust me, in the middle of the night you will find it with your toes on the way to the bathroom and it does not move.
