BballinQT24 Posted July 5, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 5, 2009 Thank goodness everybody was ok. Things could have ended up much worse. It's really scary to think about that happening at all, but especially when you're on a tour on vacation.

guo67 Posted July 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 6, 2009 We were passengers last week on the Freedom of the Seas, and while we were not part of the Pirate Duck tour, we did see *plenty* of people bandaged up, on crutches and in wheelchairs in the days following the accident. One man who had been on the tour told me it seemed that the brakes had failed and the vehicle slid off the side of the road. We heard that 29 out of 49 passengers were taken to the hospital, and 9 of them were seriously injured enough that they didn't make it back to the ship. Two of our dinner companions personally knew a couple who didn't make it back. Our departure from St. Thomas was delayed that night by about an hour or so, no doubt because ship management was dealing with everything that had happened. A very sad incident and I hope everyone is recovering from their injuries.
MJN Posted July 6, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 6, 2009 That had to be a terrifying thing to happen. Those people were lucky it was not worse, the write-up made it sound as if it could easily have been worse if not for the generator house slowing or stopping the descent down the hill. We are going on the Freedom in August and hope nothing scarey like that happens to us. Glad we bought cruise insurance! Hope all of those folks did. YIKES!
