Captain Marvins and reservations

My family is going on the Grandeur of the Seas Feb 5th. I have thought of booking with Captain Marvin's. Do we need reservations and what happens if our itinerary changes? Is there a deposit involved? What are the chances of getting a tour right off the pier? I know this is a lot of questions but this is only our 2nd cruise. Ship excursions are expensive compared to private arrangements. I figuire that a reputable company knows we have to get back to the ship and it seems that a lot of people have booked privately.

Thanks for all your help!

We booked through Captain Marvins when we went there on the Conquest in March 2003. It is best to book before you go - this ensures you a spot.

They do require that you give credit card information when you book. They are also very aware that the ships have top sometimes change their itineraries and they will not charge you if your ship doesn't port - but they will if you simply fail to show up - as would all the places that do this type of excursions.

If your not 100% sure then you can take your chances - get off the ship early and walk down to their office to see if they have any openings. They aren't far from the docking area. Once you get off the tender you want to go left and follow the road along the shore line. It's just a very short walk. Capt. Marvins is across the street - be careful when crossing as they drive on the opposite side as in the US.

You are cprrect that ship excursions are expensive - BUT - most of all they are packed. They pack people by the hundreds onto these double decker boats and several people have talked about getting very little time to enjoy these wonderful creatures.

Capt Marvins will also take you to a spot to snorkel. They had a videotographer on excursion He sold the DVD of our trip for like $60.00 - we had friends and faily with us so we all went together and bought one copy and then the friend had it sent to him - he made copies and we all had one.

Also - even though you use a credit card to secure your reservation they will allow you to pay cash when you get there.

Also - if you do the half trip in the morning that will give you some time for the beach. The driver goes right by the public beach on the way back - if you ask they will drop you there. When yoyu are ready to go back to the ship there are taxis waiting. It ws $4.00 per person to get back to the pier. They have a bath house, snack bar and some items for rent.

Hope this helps.
