RCCL children's program

My son will be 8 years old by the time we sail Brilliance of the Seas to the Mediterranean next summer. I would like to hear recent experience at the children's program particularly for this age group. My son had a good time at the Princess's program in the past and I have heard many comments that RCCL has better children's program. What type of activities were available? Do the counselors seem friendly and engaged? Did it ever feel very crowded? Most likely he will check into the program on Sea day only and will be touring with us the rest of the time. He has difficulty accepting the idea of staying on the ship when mommy and daddy are gone touring in town.

The most recent Adventure Ocean pages are at the link in my signature.

Yes, for this age group, the counselors are very engaging, from our experience.

Some things not to miss for that age, the pirate parade, the circus, the talent show (if they have one) and Gaga ball {don't ask, I have no idea, but I know my oldest LOVES it}

Thank you! The pages are very helpful. I have to say that they definitely have more to offer compared to Princess. I like the idea of the staff bringing the kids to lunch. It was a pain to always have to take our son from the program to go to lunch and then return to the program later while we were on Princess.

On sea days, the program runs from 9-12 and then 2-5. At least on the last 2 ships we were on. The staff take the kids for lunch only on the days you are in port. So if you leave the kids on board while you are in port, lunch is provided for them. They do offer a sign up for dinner about 4 or 5 times on a 7 day cruise - where they take the kids to dinner.

Ok thanks. I must have misread the pages.

Actually, you didn't misread, just read a port day.

HOWEVER, ;), RCCL did add a new lunch option to Adventure Ocean for $7.95 - the AO counselors will take the kids to lunch on a sea day if you choose.

I forgot I had read that...wasn't available in Jan last time we cruised. Great option!! Do the kids go to the Windjammer or Johnny Rockets (if on that ship)?

Hmmm, it doesn't say....

For more convenience to parents and more fun for kids, Lunch and Play provides kids in Adventure Ocean with lunch, movies, cartoons and free-play time between noon and 2 p.m. under the supervision of Adventure Ocean counselors. There is a charge of $7.95 per child for the Lunch and Play program.

As part of the recently announced new family program, My Family Time Dining will offer an expedited 40-minute dinner experience during the first seating in the main dining room for kids, ages 3-11, enrolled in the Adventure Ocean youth program. Once seated, kids will enjoy expedited service and be immediately served. Forty-five minutes into the seating, a youth counselor will escort kids from the main dining room entrance back to the Adventure Ocean spaces for continued evening activities, allowing parents to enjoy the rest of their dinner at their leisure.

Good option! I'll keep that in mind.

You mean you can leave your kids on the ship while you go into port?

We left the kids in the AO program only one time...but yes - you can sign the kids into Adventure Ocean program while you go ashore. We have only done it once - in San Juan. We were in port from 2pm until about 9pm. It was overcast and a bit rainy so the kids stayed on board and AO took them to dinner. Days in port, AO program starts earlier as well if you are leaving the kids.

Hi, DS did the lunch and play option on Enchantment recently, they have the food brought up to the AO rooms. There is a food choices sheet when you sign them up, the options were something like sandwich -cheese, ham or vegetarian; fruit -apple, banana or fruit cocktail; potato chips or cookie; drink - water, fruit punch or chocolate milk. It was good, he enjoyed it, I think they ran it like a little lunch 'party'. We didn't do the My Time Dining expedited kids service so I can't comment on that but sounds like a good idea.
