GSPLover Posted July 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 13, 2009 Anyone have any tips on the best way to the ship ? Is it possible to walk, is there a free shuttle ? Any tips / past experience appreciated. If you are lucky to be in port on a weekend (when the Costa and MSC ships are there) there probably will be a shuttle. Any other time, noo shuttle. It is a walkable distance. Slightly uphill at the start, then all downhill from there. Good smooth sidewalks until you get to the port (then no sidewalks - just pavement). There was an abbundance of taxis in P.Roma when we were there last Oct.
kruzseeka Posted July 13, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 13, 2009 As you leave the station, turn right following the main road over the fly-over -the road bears slighly left. It's a major road and busy so if you can get over onto the left hand side soon after leaving the station it will be better when you need to turn into the port. Once over the bridge, the port is on the left. Follow the pavement round (until it disappears!) veering left into the port complex - it's a bit confusing but then look out for the vaporetto stop on your left and walking straight ahead but bearing slightly right you will see the berths on your left. We found it a bit confusing - but quite easy once you've done it!! Enjoy Venice!
Susan-M Posted July 13, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 13, 2009 We walked it with luggage ... it takes about 20 minutes and wasn't too challenging, but if you can get a shuttle, I would do that instead. To see a walking route, go to google maps Venice and use 'Piazzale Roma' as your starting point and 'Bacino Stazione Marittima Venice' as your destination. Google maps gives both driving and walking directions (the same in this case.)

It is much appreciated.:)
weliketocruise86 Posted July 14, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted July 14, 2009 Seems to be quite a walk with luggage. Will wait and see what happens on the day.
zooiet Posted July 15, 2009 #7 Share Posted July 15, 2009 We did a dry run (without our luggage) walking from P.Roma to the cruise port; we decided it was too long a walk with our luggage (altho we only had two small carry ons with wheels.) We did not see a port bus and took a taxi for 12E. We like to walk also and walked many miles daily during our 4 days in Venice.
