computerguytl Posted July 13, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 13, 2009 I want to go fishing when I'm here but don't have time to charter a boat. Is there a place close to the beach to rent a fishing pole? I read somewhere else a while back that it was frowned upon from the locals but it is perfectly legal to do. Let me know some details. I'm a good ole boy from KY that likes his fishing. drew sailbum Posted July 14, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2009 It is perfectly legal to fish from shore if you are: a Caymanian, or in Cayman on a tourist visa. Non-Caymaninans living in Cayman on a work visa cannot fish from shore without purchasing a rather expensive fishing license. Oddly, if that same non-Caymanian is fishing from a boat then no fishing license is needed. I have never found a place to rent fishing poles. There are a few of our Caymanian good ol' boys who could arrange everything for you and take you bonefishing from shore. This is typically fishing for Tarpon - good for the fight but no good to eat.
