tootsie7 Posted July 14, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2009 We will be in NY for 2 nights in September-looking for nice but inexpensive hotel or possibly B&B. We would like to stay near Central Park or Times Square-any suggestions?

greatam Posted July 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 15, 2009 We will be in NY for 2 nights in September-looking for nice but inexpensive hotel or possibly B&B. We would like to stay near Central Park or Times Square-any suggestions? Not much is inexpensive that is decent in NYC, although prices are better than they have been in quite a few years. Here is probably the best B & B in Manhattan. http://www.mountmorrishouse.com NOT close to Times Square, but straight north of the north end of Central Park. HOWEVER, most decent B & B's in the Manhattan area REQUIRE 3 night stays, so we rarely recommend them. You have to get into Brooklyn, Queens or even more likely, out on Long Island to be able to book for just a couple of nights. There are some truly spectacular B & B's on the "gold coast" (north side of Long Island), but they are pricey. This place is really nice but it is not for everyone-you will need to be able to deal with public transport or hire a lot of taxis. Not much in the area for walking around-Apollo Theater, Cotton Club, old Harlem. I personally think you will be far better off booking a hotel around Times Square through Hotwire or Priceline. Pick a 4* or better, bid or buy at about $150-180.00. Should get you a VERY nice hotel in a touristy area for a VERY decent price.
