Hampton Inn (Convention Center) New Orleans

Can anyone tell me if this is a good, safe location? I know it's the closest thing to the cruise terminal. We'd be there the first part of April, 2010.

I LOVE my Hampton Inn's but I want a decent location. Anyone know how close this is to the French Quarter?

Hi,

The hotel is about a mile from the Fr Qtr. I would feel safe staying there. However, I would not want to walk to the Fr Qtr at night. The Qtr is to the North, You could walk up Convention Center Blvd to Canal Street which is the Southern edge of the Qtr. Any other ?'s just ask.

So since it's about a mile from the FQ, do you mean by not walking it at night, that particular side of the FQ is a little shady/unsafe?

The walk is to the French Quarter not in the French Quarter. You will be walking in front of the convention center and hotels and the Aquarium as well as the Casino. However there are not that many people walking through that area later in the evening. It would probably be fairly safe but I don't think I would chance it.

Cheepwrent, when are you going on your cruise? We are booked on the Triumph for the 4/3/2010 to the Bahamas and we can't wait. Is that the one you are going on? I also just reserved a room at the Hampton Inn because they seemed to have the best rate for a room including parking and close to the port. I found out that some of the hotels that have "free" parking the rates are $40.00 more a night. I am not talking about the ones that have free parking for the whole cruise but for one night. So I went with their cruise special. We decided just to go ahead and pay for parking at the port. It will simplify things, I think even thought it cost a lot.
