readytocruise2009 Posted July 23, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2009 Port Forum no answer :( Any help here appreciated We are trying to figure out how long it takes to get : FCO to Civitavecchia, FCO to Rome, Rome to Civitavecchia Civitavecchia to FCO We arrive in Rome on a weekday & should clear customs by noon. We get off our ship hopefully by 6:15am for an early flight and need to get to FCO from Civitavecchia We have an extra day and have no idea to stay or how to get to where we want to get the day before. Any suggestions appreciated or links to posts that already have answered. Thanks
kitty9 Posted July 23, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 23, 2009 FCO to Port of Civitavecchia---a little over an hour, or longer if there's an accident, of which there are quite a few. Central Rome to FCO--About an hour, or more depending on traffic. Central Rome to Civitavecchia--about 90 minutes or longer depending on traffic How early is your flight home? FCO is one of the worst airports in Europe. Very long lines, lots of security checks. You need at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours before an international flight to get through everything. I would not book a flight before 11:30am.
Dick in Falls Church Posted July 23, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 23, 2009 When we went to Rome, we took the train from FCO to town. Our hotel was a couple blocks from the station. On the return, we hooked up with some Cruise critics who had set up a bus. Otherwise, we probably would have taken the ship transfer. Check with your rollcall. Agree with the previous reply about FCO. Looking now for a return trip in Nov, and it almost looks like we me have to stay over at the airport in order to get a suitable flight. amyellen02 Posted July 23, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 23, 2009 We are getting to Rome 2 nights before our ship leaves the port. We arranged, through our hotel, to have a car waiting for us at the airport to take us to our hotel. Then, our hotel arranged transportation back to the airport to pick up the Celebrity cruise transfer from the airport to the port. We will be meeting up with people just flying in to go on the cruise. We are taking the transfer back from the port to the airport on the last day of the cruise. We are then staying the night at the Hilton at the airport to leave the next morning. Your hotel should arrange transfers for you to and from the airport. It is worth is the cost to have a private car. We are just using the airport as a "home base" sort of thing to catch the transfer to the ship, and a place to be returned to. Hope this helps!
