Excursion To Walt Disney World

Recommended Posts

I am sailing out of Baltimore and we have a stop at Port Canaveral. RCL offers an 8 hour excursion to WDW. HAs anyone tried to do this in 8hrs? DOes the 8 hours include or exclude the 1 hour approx. travel time each way? We went to WDW two years ago, and I am debating if it would be worth it for only 8 hrs. My kids are now 7,7,9. Thanks.

Depends on what park you are talking about. 8 hours isn't much time to see everything or do all the rides. If you are not worried about that then it might be worth it.

You will want to check with RCI and make sure the 8 hours does not include the travel time, which can be from 45 mins to an hour. I would assume the excursion goes to the Magic Kingdom which given 8 hours and not too bad crowds, would be fun. However if the 8 hours includes travel and you are going during a peak season, you will be very rushed to get your monies worth- IMHO.

Normally excursion times are from the time you board the tour until the time you are returned to the ship, thus travel time is included. If you just want to go to say you've been to Disney World then go for it but if you really want your children to experience WDW, then I'd skip it this time and go on a land vacation. There are some nice Kennedy Space Center tours that are less time restrictive or Cocoa Beach is right down the road. You could spend a nice day at the park. Also, see if Ron Jon's Cape Caribe has day rates. They are with in a few minutes taxi ride from the port and have a great pool/water feature area.

I've never seen WDW excursion for day of disembarkation. Normally the excursions at that time are Kennedy Space Center, the Everglades/swamp tour and that's about it. You could probably put together a WDW excursion for yourself and save a few bucks or their might be some independent tour operators in the area who could help you out.

I was thinking of the Kenndy Space Center also, but it might not be right for the ages of the children she is talking about. I think going to Coco Beach might be a better idea. I cant imagine doing WDW in 8 hours. I can only guess at what the price for that one is.

We are doing Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. I think at that or the Studios 8 hours is probably enough time. If it gets cut down to 6 because of travel time that will cut it close though.

Are you going at a peak time (that's all summer long for those parks)? If so, I wouldn't go to any of the Disney or Universal Parks for 8 hours. The lines are just too long if it's a busy time of the year.

At Christmas, when we got off the Sovereign, we took our 7 yo son to the Kennedy Space Center. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and found it a lot of fun for our ds. My vote would be to save WDW for another, lengthier time and go to the KSC at a more leisurely pace. There is so much to see there and then you can get back to the ship without too much of a rush.

I would think Kennedy would be good for kids that age. My kids flipped over the Air and Space Museum in Washington DC, and they are 5 and 7.

elliecall ~ We are also going to Universal IOA before the cruise and only plan a day. We are staying at Portofino and will have the FOTL pass to avoid lines.
We plan to go to Disney after the cruise and are making arrangements now. I was just curious about an excursion since there was mention of one previously. We will only be spending a half day in Magic Kingdom, but think it is plenty considering we have been there several times. We will go from around noon until closing. Hopefully, with it being a Sunday and afternoon, it will not be too crowded.

Try going to Downtown Disney where there is DisneyQuest interactive Theme Park, Dining (Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Cafe), and Shops (World of Disney, Lego). 7 to 6 hours at Disneyworld theme park seems like a short time, wait in line for a few of the popular rides and before you know it, time to leave. Time just fly's at DisneyWorld, is it me or is it Magic?

it's Disney Magic of course! being someone who used to work at Disneyland (Anaheim!) I know all about Disney Magic!

Even if the excursion were 8 hours at the actual park itself, thats not enough time to do WDW. you would defintiely want a land vacation to do WDW!

has anyone ever noticed, at WDW or at Disneyland... the minute you walk through the front entrance of Disneyland, or drive through the entrace to WDW, its surrounded by trees all around on purpose so that if you were to look back and look around you, you would never see any of the outside world? its on purpose so that when you enter any Disney theme park you feel like you're in this special Disney world away from all of the negativity going on outside in the "real world".... just a little piece of disney magic for you!

jstducky!

Hi we are also going out of Baltimore on 5/31 on Grandeur of the Seas. I was thinking about going to Sea World and if I did I was going to rent a car and drive there because I priced how much it would cost to rent a car and even buy my tickets for Sea World on line and it was cheaper that the Shore Excursion that the ship was offering. We are in Port Canaveral from 10 to 10 so we would have plenty of time to drive there and back and stay longer than the excursion. You could probably do the same thing if you have the time while the ship is docked. Of course you wouldn't be able to see everything at WDW but I am sure your children would enjoy themselves, just to say they went to Disney.

Another "option" depending on how long you will be there is renting a car at the pier and go to one of Disney's water parks for the day (if you'll be there in warm weather (or warm for where you're from). If you have a bit of extra time on your way back you could stop off at Downtown Disney to look around. You're kids are a perfect age esp. if they like water parks.

Galileo- I'll second that! Disney is definately magical and I can not imagine only having 6 hours during a shore excursion to experience it (and I've been about 30 times)
