CRUZBUDS Posted July 27, 2009 #51 Share Posted July 27, 2009 We were on the Carnival Spirit a couple of years ago and there were several young Marines in their dress blues at the Captain's cocktail party. The Captain said some kind and heart-felt words about his appreciation of the American military (he was Italian). He then asked them to rise and be recognized. The standing ovation brought house and lasted several minutes. After the party, the Marines could barely get out of the theater, everyone wanted to shake there hands. We stood in line to do it. CRUZBUDS Posted July 27, 2009 #52 Share Posted July 27, 2009 Ditto on the thanks for the YouTube video - I shared it with some friends. It is awkward sometimes to show our appreciation - the silent gesture is beautiful.
crsrock Posted July 27, 2009 #53 Share Posted July 27, 2009 I cruised several times while I was on active duty, and did, in fact, wear my Dress Whites for formal night...it was very special. I have one very nice photo of me and the captain, and one with my parents. I used to travel in uniform years ago, however, nowadays, it is not recommended.......that's a darn shame. Military service is an honor, and we veterans should not have (or had) to hide it. So, wear your dress blues, or dress whites, or dress greens and be proud!!! Astona Posted July 27, 2009 #54 Share Posted July 27, 2009 I think this is a great thread. My hubby is 20 years Air Force and he never brings his Blues or Mess Dress on cruises and I try to pack them all the time. For our cruise in September I am going to bring them for him. I am going to get him to read this thread as well, thanx !!
bluegirlum Posted July 27, 2009 #55 Share Posted July 27, 2009 I feel so proud when I see servicemen and women in their Dress Blues/Whites or even camo in the airport. Please wear it. I would definitely buy you a drink too. Thank you so much for your service. We are lucky to have you protecting us!
