Columbia Jacket in September????

We are sailing to Alaska in early September. We purchased columbia jackets. What are the chances of needing the coat?

What kind of Columbia jacket did you purchase? They make many different kinds. If it is a wind breaker/rain coat, very likely you will need it. If it is a puffy coat, less likely. If it has a zip out liner, you'll be set.

We were there in early June and I took a Columbia jacket with zip out liner. (Liner in made it winter weight) We took a wildlife cruise in Seward and I wore the jacket, liner, gloves and hood up and I was still cold. In ports, windbreaker weight seemed fine but on balcony and whale watch, we needed the warmer coats. I don't know if September weather would be comparable to early June or not.

Yes, I would agree...if it has a zip-out liner..leave the liner, the jacket will be fine.

I have never been to Alaska, and can't predict the weather, but the forecast for Anchorage for the next two weeks says 40-60 F and raining pretty much every day. I would bring something that will allow you to feel comfortable in that weather.

My son is working in Alaska and has told me lately he thinks he is in Hawaii as the weather has been so warm. He is in Sitka. So I would say check the weather and see what the week is going to be.. :rolleyes:

Bring the jacket. Best to bring it and not use it than to not bring it and need it.

 

Alaska weather is unpredictable. We were chilly in the morning on the bow in Glacier Bay and needed to be bundled up, but in t-shirts in Juneau.

Most likely to need rain gear at any time in Alaska. Be prepared to stay dry so you can have fun!
