Watch those luggage tags!

In this week's newspaper, the Tampa Airport Authority commented about the new conveyor belts associated with the explosives screening tunnel. It seems the conveyors now installed at Tampa airport are doing a very good job of tearing off hanging luggage tags.

That's why I always try to have tags on both handles and will be looking into attaching an address tag somehow flat on the exterior so it can't get ripped off.

The last time we flew, both hanging luggage tags got torn off one of our bags. Bummer, as they were nice leather tags. We also put a tag on the inside of our luggage, along with a typed copy of our itinerary. I read somewhere the luggage that is permanently lost are the ones with no luggage tags. Our newer bags have the luggage tags that slide into a snapped pocket.

Also, remove old flight tags before checking your bags, it is one reason some bags go to the wrong destination.
