Camp Carnival questions

Does Camp Carnival operate on the days that you are in port somewhere or only on sea days?

Does anyone have a schedule or give me an idea of the times and activities for the 2-5 age group?

We are looking at sailing on the Triumph - 5 nights, stopping in Cozumel and Progresso.

The camp operates both sea and port days, although the schedule are slightly different on port days. They ask you to pickup your kids if you come back on board for lunch break during port days.

We always take our boys (currently 6 and 8, but started cruising at age of 2) onshore for the port visits. It’s their vacation also, didn’t feel right to have them in camp all day long.

Look for Crusin mama’s link on her posts that should get you the kids programs you need.

CC Operates ALL days... So if you scuba dive or want to shop you can let them stay with staff while you do your own thing. We LOVED Cozumel with the kids... actually my husband did scuba and I took the kids to Nachi Cocum and there was hardly anyone there at this GORGEOUS beach and it was so cheap. $50 for me, all I could drink, 3 course lunch and they kept 'em coming! My son who was 8 was $12, he also got to order lunch and they kept bringing him virgin Pina Coladas and etc, My daughter who was 3 was FREE and she ALSO got to order lunch and have drinks. The beach was unincumbered with people, there was some seaweed that they promptly swept away, the water was gentle and clear. My daughter played on the shore, my son brought his snorkel and mask and went snorkeling right around our area with a really nice man who was seated next to us and sailing on the RCL ship that was in port by us. I was able to find a quiet beach in every port we went to. (And an awesome kids park in Jamaica -- sunset beach resort w/ a day pass). Camp Carnival opens around 10, I think -- we'd get up, get dressed, have breakfast (I love the dining room, but the buffet also has an omelette bar that is really nice and they have lots of cereals, muffins, fruit for the kids). By the time we were finished with all of that we'd read our activity page and plan our day around CC events. There was always stuff for them to do, such as: Sand art, Coloring, face painting, they made hats, themed parties, movies, games, video games for older kids, etc.

Progresso is somewhat dirty (by Caribbean standards), you may want to check out the mayan ruins there, of course, there are beach breaks/resorts you can go to there, too, that are nice, not very expensive and, hey, it's a beach, right? I had fun and the kids definitely will if you choose to take them.

My daughter was 3. CC was a lot of fun. They had Princess parties, Build a Bear workshops (about $20 fee), played games and at night plan on paying the $5 an hour for the late night slumber party. I put my kids in PJs, sent them to camp and my DH and I would go to the hot tub (alone) the casino (alone) shows (alone) or our cabin (alone). It was GREAT! :) Most of the time she wanted to go, (during the day) but not always. If she didn't want to go I didn't make her, instead we'd get ice cream and read the activity sheet to see what was planned later in the day and see what she wanted to do. She made a T shirt, which she still wears all the time and a backpack and "built" a cat that she slept with every night for a good 6 mos. My son was 8 and had even more fun at CC.

Our cabin was 1052 Panorama deck, directly under the Spa deck and Camp Carnival. Location was great! We had such a good time we are going again next October with all three of our kids. Take advantage of mid day sea days when CC closes for two hours to feed the kids lunch and take a nap. That way they don't get too tired and cranky. Our kids stayed up late and got up early, the mid day nap helped us all!

The kids can eat with CC if you want to eat with "just the grownups." but if your kids are like mine they may not want to. Mine went once. They preferred eating off the real menu, esp. my 8 year old. I would have liked more adult meals, but it was a minor issue... the kids loved it. They did dancing sometimes, too, and if the kids were there the servers and even people from other tables, would dance with them, which was really sweet and the kids had fun. (The one night we didn't bring the kids the server and hostess were really disappointed and asked us to bring them back :)!
