Carib210 Posted August 8, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2009 We will be staying at the Hale Koa for 2 nites pre POA cruise in October. This will be our first visit to Hawaii and we can't wait. We always take a case of water and some soda on our cruises. Was wondering what the PX is like.....do they sell water by the case? Is there a Class Six store? Also, is the pier far from the hotel? Is a taxi the best way (approx. cost) ?? Thanks for any info.
Carey and Kerry Posted August 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2009 We stayed there last year - it took about 20 minutes from the airport. We had a car waiting as we arrived around 9pm Hawaii time and there were 5 of us including my elderly MIL, no traffic. The pier took about 20 - 30 minutes as well, there was a LOT of traffic and one of the main roads was blocked for some reason. I don't remember seeing a PX on the hotel grounds, could it be at the actual base at Pearl Harbor? We thought the hotel was wonderful and since that time, they have remodeled both towers. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Have fun!
twobuckbear Posted August 8, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 8, 2009 The Hale Koa has just about everything you need. They have a great little exchange that offers a variety of items. You can get water there....good idea. They have a lot of Hawaiian souvenirs...mac nuts, coconut syrup, nice clothes and so on. Of course, the best part is that they charge no tax. They will also price match. Go to Halekoa.com and you will see all that they have to offer. I love their restaurants, as they offer good prices, views and great food. There is a specialty coffee cart in the lobby and there is a very small variety store where you can get your fresh morning coffee at a good price. On Fridays they have a local craft fair in the lobby. And don't forget the Friday night fireworks at HHV. Can't say enough about this place. Their luau is a good deal, too. Thank you to all who serve our country. My DH is in Alaska serving our country, right now. Aloha Judy
Steamboatin Posted August 8, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 8, 2009 Aloha You All, The Hale Koa PX is on the lowest ground level in the "new" building. It is on the beach side of the hotel. There is also a barber shop as well that goes by appointments. Good hair cut at military rates. Rental cars were cheaper at Hale Koa when we were there last. Try to get an end balcony room overlooking the beach. Room has a slightly highter rental rate but is worth the view. Best balcony room is in the "new" building on the left side so you are overlooking both the park and the beach.
Carey and Kerry Posted August 8, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2009 That explains why we never saw it, our room was in the "old" building. We did wander around the grounds, but must have missed it. They also have an office that you can buy tickets for different excursions. We used it to purchase tickets for the Polynesian Cultural Center and they were certainly less than thru the PCC website. We will have to look for the PX the next time we are there - thanks for the heads up!!

That wing with the px (the one closest to the Hilton Hawaiian Village) is the old wing. The wing with the fitness center and Biba's (toward the Army museum) is the newer wing).
