Dz Ruins- Pesos only?

This will be our first trip to Progreso in October! We are hoping to hire a taxi to take us to the ruins and wait for us. My question is, do we need to make sure we have pesos as opposed to dollars for admission, gift shop, etc.? I have no problem paying pesos, but if they accept dollars it would be one less thing I would have to do! TIA! :D

You got it right, Pesos only at the ruins. Unless that has changed recently. Best rates at the banks.

Actually, I've found better rates at the currency exchanges. At least in Merida.

I have been unable to exchange dollars for pesos at banks recently - you would need to go to one of the money exchange booths on Calle 80 in Progreso. That's the main street where they drop you off at the casa de Cultura. See a map of Progreso here: http://yucatantoday.com/en/maps/progreso-map
