Bringing food from ship in Cayman

We are travelling with a group of people who have very restrictive diet, vegetarians, no cheese, egg etc etc. Everybody in the group has a special diet they follow even on vacation.

I would hate to try to find places where all of them can get something to eat and spend hours from our little time on the island looking for places to eat. Back home only food court at a mall is a viable place where everyone gets something to their liking

I was suggesting they pack some snacks from the ship to carry them thru the day, may be some fruits, PBJ, a little sandwich .. whatever..

Can we do that? is it allowed to bring food to the island from the ship like a sandwich, some snack packets etc..

has anyone done it before, are there people who go thru your bag to make sure you are not bringing anything to the island?

Bags may not be searched, but...

carrying foods such as fresh vegetables and fruit into a foreign county is usually a no-no, and it is here in Cayman as well. Such foods have the potential to spread problems. Be kind and make a stop at a local grocery to stock up on produce for the day.

Not just a no-no.. but illegal.

Most ships have signage or postings that tell you that you are not allowed to bring food from the ship into port.

You may, however, bring manufacturers sealed packaged food such as chips, pretzels, pringles etc, but you can find them at the grocery stores as well. Anything that could potentially have insects, spores, or molds, would be strictly prohibited.

There is a small supermarket with meat and produce in downtown George Town and larger ones at two points along Seven Mile Beach, across West Bay Road (the main street) in the shopping malls. They are very "American" style.
