ilionite65 Posted May 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2004 I thought I read that the AOS would be going into dry dock soon. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks
Hoopster3145 Posted May 12, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2004 When i was on the ship earlier this year, they said they would repaint as needed, replace/fix up needed linens, carpets, beds, etc. Also work on the mechanical features of the ship. THey said this is just routine, nothing out of the ordinary, as they do this to all their ships every 2-3 years. 1/01 NCL Majesty 1/02 NCL Majesty 1/03 RCCL Brilliance of the Seas 3/03 Carnival Jubilee 8/03 RCCL Navigator Of the Seas 1/04 RCCL Adventure of the Seas 3/04 RCCL Radiance of the Seas 8/15/04 Rhapsody of the Seas 14 DAY LEGEND OF THE SEAS PANAMA CANAL CRUISE (12/26/04) 3/13/05 SPRING BREAK on the Explorer of the Seas
Hucc Posted May 12, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2004 it is just routine all cruiselines put their ships in drydock every few years to maintain them (paint, new carpeting, other odds and ends, etc.) *** Upcoming Cruises Voyager of the Seas in August 2004 Diamond Princess in February 2005

ilionite65 Posted May 12, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Thank you for your replies. We sailed the AOS last June and are going again next Feb. Looking forward to going on my favorite ship again!
mammallama Posted May 12, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 12, 2004 We went last June also! The 22nd. We're going again this June, this time we're bringing the kids. It is a beautiful ship. We will be the 3rd group out since drydock. I'll let you know if I notice the differences. (It was so beautiful last year, I can't imagine what needed replacing). ilionite65 Posted May 12, 2004 Author #7 Share Posted May 12, 2004 mammallama, I do hope you post a review of your upcomming cruise on the AOS. Will be interesting to read about her dry-dock. I'm not from Illinois, my "name" refers to a small town in upstate NY that I'm originally from, Ilion- home of Remington Arms. (Remington rifles) Have a great cruise! mconthehighseas Posted May 12, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 12, 2004 When we were on the AOS in Sept, our waiter told us that they would be stopping in Pascagoula MS for regular maintainance this year. So if you are in the area, you can drop by there and see what they do. mammallama Posted May 12, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 12, 2004 I would love to put my new digital camera to the test. I'm just not sure if I'll know what is new or not. I'll just have to take a picture of everything...except towel animals and UFO's (unidentified floating objects). nomad498 Posted May 13, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Just got off the AOS on May 12th. It is at sea today and will be in Freeport tomorrow for drydock until it returns to SJU on May 23rd. Johnny Rockets will have a charge of $4 PP for any food on the menu. They will be adding a Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop (a charge for that, too, I'm sure). They have already replaced most of the stair way and hall carpets. The rooms will get new carpets, new bed linnens, and I believe the pool will be getting new chairs as well. THe children's Adventure ocean area has already been re done. They added a car to the front of the enterance that sticks out under the adventure sign. They crew was in great moods on the last day. They had parties planned for last night, all day today, and a day or 2 while in dry dock. If the crew does not take vacation during this drydock, they will be aboard for training of other positions and helping out with the refurbishments. (i.e. room stewards will remove linnens and bring the new ones up to the rooms, etc.). Have a great time on the ship! This was my 2nd cruise on AOS and it was great! I was on her a year earlier, and when I saw the difference between the old carpets and the new ones, it was clear that the new carpets were definately needed. The ship will be lifted out of the water and painted. The window cleaners made their way around the ship and cleaned the exterior windows of the balconies while in port on some days. There were also some rust spots that were visisble around the water line of the ship (typically there is someone painting them in ports, but they were painting other things this time, too). My friend will be on the May 23rd sailing. Cant wait to see his pics when he returns of the changes!! ilionite65 Posted May 13, 2004 Author #14 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Thanks for the replies. I expected the charge for JR, and that has been talked to death so I'm not going there! ( discussing the charge I mean ) I do have a question, does anyone know if a Chops will be added to the AOS? We ate at Portofinos when on her last June and would like to try Chops. Have sailed on 6 RCCL cruises, 4 different ships, and have yet to be on one that has Chops.
