CCress9324 Posted May 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2004 Is there much shade at CocoCay? There was a lot of shade at Labadee. Also, do they have many of those grass umbrellas at CocoCay like they have at Labadee?
Cruising Fool Posted May 12, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2004 I remember there being quite a bit of shade at CocoCay. Can't remember any grass umbrellas. CRUZ-AHOLIC Posted May 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2004 I saw CocoCay while on a Sovereign cruise, and I have to say, being there for the day had to be one of the most peaceful times I've ever experienced. This is because after we arrived on Cococay most people head over to the huge beach area. If you keep walking a ways the crowds will thin out significantly and you'll find hammocks. They're located amid the palm trees, and are wide enough for 2 people to lay in comfortably. Since I was with DH as well 2 family members, we walked until we found 2 hammocks right next to each other. Me and DH climbed in one and napped the day away. I did go out in the ocean, and found 2 conch shells within walking distance of the beach. A truly great day! I definitely preferred the place to Labadee! hess2201 Posted May 12, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 12, 2004 We stopped at CC on the Galaxy. Tendering took a long while, much longer than princess cay or HMC. I can imagine that with 3500 people versus 2000, it can only take longer. One the upside, CC is very nice, and does have good shade. aqusis Posted May 13, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2004 We tendered on Coco Cay on the Sovereign last October. Our sailing had 2800+ passengers and although the line was long (they weren't using tender tickets) it moved pretty quickly. There were two tender boats that held probably 300 people. We took our time, had breakfast and then went down to get in line. We waiting maybe 4-5 minutes and got on the next tender. There is lots of shady area on Coco Cay. If you want to get away from the crowds, once you get off the tender, take the path to the right. Go a little ways and you'll come to a nice area that has few people, plenty of chairs and hammocks. If you do take the path to the left, walk down past the water park and there's another nice, less crowded area. AdrieneAGD Posted May 13, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 13, 2004 My only complaint about my trip on the Mariner would be that we don't have a stop in CC. Instead of two sea days at the end, I'd prefer one sea day and one day at CC... they shouldn't have any problem getting back to Port Canaveral overnight from CC, since the Sovereign didn't when I was on her last year. judyf Posted May 13, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 13, 2004 I never been to Coco Cay. Where would we head to if we also want to snorkel from the beach. Is there a site to get an idea what there is to do there? I'm on the 5/21 Voyager sailing and I "think" we are going to CC. camaj Posted May 14, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 14, 2004 to snorkel from the beach, either reserve the snorkeling excursion on the ship or go to the snorkel shack on the island. I think it is $27 now and if you have your own equipment you only have to rent the life vest. Also we did not go very far from the ship to find our chairs and still did not think it was that crowded. In other words you don't have to go around to the other side of the island unless you really want alot of seclusion. I didn't think any area was really super crowded. But that is just my opinion. jay10603 Posted May 14, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 14, 2004 CCress9324 CocaCay is wonderful. Everyone is right, the farther you walk away from the landing point, the less crowded the area gets. My Darling Wife (DW) and I arrived on the island and made a beeline to the farside. There we found a hammock built for two with nobody around. We enjoyed relaxing next to the beach with a cool drink in hand in the shade. Then we took a Sea Kayak trip which was fantastic. Paul, our guide was fantastic, very observant, answered questions honestly, and was very knowledgable of the area. The trip was alot of fun. The couple we were traveling with did the wave runner adventure and reported that they also had a great time with thier guide. CocoCay is a very nice place to stop. I have been to Labadee (Hati) and I think that CocoCay is much more relaxing, but Labadee has more to offer as far as history and scenic views. -- Jay Voyager of the Seas 02/17/02 Brilliance of the Seas 12/02/02 Sovereign of the Seas 12/08/
