AdrieneAGD Posted May 12, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Actually, I think it's "Merchant Ship." SV means "Sailing Vessel," etc. Sovereign of the Seas, 2/27/2003 Celebrating my husband's 30th birthday on the Mariner of the Seas, 9/5/2004 'til the Mariner!! cmason Posted May 12, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Here is a list I have seen: M/V = Motor Vessel M/S = Motor Ship S/S = Steam Ship R/V = Research vessel IB - Ice Breaker MY - Motor Yacht SY - Sailing Yacht MSY - Motor Sailing Yacht TES - Turbo-Electric Ship TSS - Turbine Steam Ship MT - Motor Tanker TT - Turbine Tanker MF - Motor Ferry But I have seen where the "M" indicates Merchant, but I think that is what the Navy uses. paw323 Posted May 13, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Don't forget Radiance-class ships and X's Constellation-class ships are designated GTS=Gas Turbine Ship Serenade of the Seas 5/30/04 Vision of the Seas 12/03 Rhapsody of the Seas 6/97 Majesty of the Seas 6/
mattinla Posted May 13, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Actually, I think for some reason, the Radiance class has been known as GTS, and the similar Celebrity M-Class have been known as GTV, for Gas Turbine Vessel... But it sounds like marketing people are deciding these things these days, unless your ship is being named by the Queen
