Turtle Farm

My group wants to visit the Turtle place offered in the cruise ships large excursion, however, we're not interested in seeing Hell- and 3 out of the 4 of us 9myself excluded) are terrified of stingrays thanks to Steve Irwin... I know I know.. way irrational...

Either way, anyone know how far the turtle place is from the boat and how much admission is? we were thinking of just going there on our own.

And just so you know, it is called the Turtle Farm for a reason. Yes, they do release some turtles back into the ocean, but the majority of the turtles are product to be harvested. I'm not making a judgement about this practice, but some people might have a problem with it and might prefer to know about it before visiting.

 

Personally, I have no problem with raising most animals for human consumption. I do draw the line a veal.

Yes the majority are harvested but there is a limit on how much can be sold. Please also bear in mind that turtle stew is the Cayman Islands' National Dish.

Thanks very much for that piece of info, Bruce-r. DW and I have been considering the Turtle Farm, but didn't know that. I don't have an ethical problem with animals being harvested for consumption either, although the notion is distasteful to me. I'm not sure we'd enjoy visiting the turtles, knowing what their fate will likely be.
