mccasey Posted August 19, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2009 Hi! On my last cruise we called Portofino's on our first day aboard (maybe 2 hours after boarding) and asked if we could make a reservation. We were open about which night. They told us they were booked solid already for every night except that night. Is there any way to make reservations ahead of time? Thanks! ASeaPrincess1 Posted August 19, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2009 You can book online before your cruise. Just log into your booking and look under Cruise Enhancements. It is close enough now that reservations should be open for the specialty restaurants.
DrmnOfMaui Posted August 19, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2009 My husband reserved online a few weeks before our trip. We LOVED Portofino! We ate there 3 times on our last trip and would probably do even more next time.:) The Tiramisu was fabulous!!!! I was surprised that we never had trouble getting a reservation when on the ship and when we dined the restaurant was about 1/2 full. (We did AOS in July of this year.) critterchick Posted August 19, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2009 And remember that Mariner has 2 specialty restaurants (both are great, but I personally prefer Portofino for the menu variety and ambiance). And if you book in advance, you also must pay in advance.
mccasey Posted August 19, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted August 19, 2009 Oh that's good to know! On another note, since I see that a lot of you are from California. I am flying in the day before and thinking of staying in Santa Monica for a night. Any good hotel ideas for me. Preferrably not too too expensive but no dives either! I wanna be within walking distance to the pier and Third Street Promenade! Thanks!!
tropiclvrs Posted August 19, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 19, 2009 If you don't find your preferred day/time available on line, I suggest you do wait until you board. They only offer a very limited number of reservations on line and the rest are held until the cruise begins. When we were on Mariner in June we stopped at Portofino's first thing after boarding and made our reservation with no problem. Also keep in mind that people will cancel so keep checking back if they don't have your first request right away. IF you do book online, you can cancel up to 24 hours in advance and have your credit card refunded. Sorry I can't help you with a hotel in Santa Monica. I live a bit further north and don't make it down there that often. Thanks! Julie
