Yes thats right Jim, but you can also put them the mail box.

 

they are stamped queen mary 2 as well, not sure about the next port part, they can weeks to get home

But any letters that are posted in the red post box have to be stamped already for the next port. For example, if you're on a trannie to NY from Southampton, you must put a US stamp on your letter before putting it in the box. The pursers collect the mail before arrival and send them off with the port agent.

I have no idea how its done, just that they dont always mail them from the next port, ie if your on a multi port cruise
