tcfila Posted August 20, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2009 Just wondering if anyone has been diving with Blue Ocean Safari and can provide recent updates. I've searched the forum and find only outdated info. Thanks, Tim

gaviota Posted August 28, 2009 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Here are some of the dive operations currently open in Mahahual and links: I have been diving will all of these and all offer good service. Blue Ocean Safari located at Luna de Plata http://blueoceansafari.com/ Tortuga Azul located at Maya Luna http://www.tortugazul.com/ Maya Blue Diving located at Margarita del Sol http://www.mayabluediving.com/ Dreamtimes http://www.dreamtimediving.com/ Bucanero del Caribe http://www.divemahahual.com/ Most of the rates area about the same. You may want to also consider where they are located too.
Dave and Audrey Posted August 29, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2009 Seems their pricing is about the same and only one does shore dives. Any opinions on any of these? Any suggestions where to dive? What locations are best to have the dive shop located?
gaviota Posted August 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2009 Video of Costa Maya You will find most of the dive shops use dive sites from Mahahual to about km 10 south. My opinion - most of the better sites are from Punta Rio Bermejo and south from Maya Luna - Balumku - Margarita del Sol area. I do not know of any real "shore dive" locations that would not require a somewhat long surface swim. While the boat ride may not be long - it would still be long for a surface swim. The first reef starts about 100 to 200 yards from beach - most of the dive site are a little distance more. All are drift dive with a small amount of current. Map of some of the dive sites - map is a bit old but you can get an idea of the area.
Dave and Audrey Posted August 29, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 29, 2009 Thanks for the info, where are the dive shops located in Punta Rio Bermejo? I couldn't find a dive shop really in that area. Is this something that can be done by a cruiser?? Seems it may be a bit further north than we'd be able to travel to, dive and get back in time to leave from.
