When we sailed HAL we docked in an industrial area. There was a shuttlebus (I donot remember the fee) that took us to town.

Silhouette also docked in an industrial area last month. It is possible to walk into town not sure how long this would take -- 30 mins or so? There is a shuttle bus E10 return.

Look at East Wall Road south of Alexandra Road on a Google or other map of Dublin, and you'll see the general area of the Dublin cruise port. You could walk to town, but there are no sidewalks and you would be dodging truck traffic - not very pleasant.

Most cruise lines run shuttle busses which usually drop off at the top of Kildare street, a short walk to the Trinity College entrance nearest the Book of Kells exhibit (highly recommended).
