Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I did it & when we got back to the US I gave the Customs guy my best poker face & told him I didn’t have any fruit, plants or whatever. That was in 2010. I gave a few extras to a neighbor & every year ONE bulb still blooms.
  2. I’ve tried since Sunday, the 13th, to book our HIA dinner at the PG. Site won’t accept reservation. Works fine for the Canaletto, but the PG is a no-go! This is for the Alaskan Summer Soltice Artic Circle Cruise. WHY WHY does HAL have such a screwed up website?? Annoyed beyond words!
  3. Hit four star 5 yr ago. I don’t recall any email congratulating us & wasn’t expecting one either. Four star is the BIGGY due to perks that go with it…..free laundry was all I was interested in, but half off dining fee in specialty restaurants is good even tho HAL keeps raising the fee. It’s now $46-$50 I don’t remember exactly. The Medallions are something I’m not excited about. Got the first one & tossed it. Really? Are people displaying these? Last pin was probably 8-10 yr ago….lost in a jewelry box or tossed in a move.
  4. Save sandals for dressy night. I’m usually chilly on any trip….all ships seem to be too cold. MDR on NS was a meat locker last winter…we were in Caribbean. I couldn’t wait to leave every night we ate there. I realize crew are running around & working hard. If you have a fleece, wear it on board & keep it handy for excursions. Read weather forecast night before next port. Good walking shoes most practical if you’re into hiking, get hiking shoes. Wear on flight so you save space in bag. Enjoy cruise!
  5. I want to post info about a whale watching tour but the Roll Call moved. All listings are for NewEng,and/Canada. If someone can steer me to location, I really appreciate it. Thank you.
  6. I used the “washy washy” system on the Zaandam on VOV last summer. We had a big outbreak of the C & we never got it. We were masked at least 3.5 wk including tenders & private tours. Washing however you do it is better than nothing.
  7. Last time we did the tour was 2018. At that time it was $150 pp. You have to ask at the Front Desk if the ship is doing it. May be another year before they do it.
  8. We book our cruises for non-peak times. Fall or late summer……the screamers are back in school!
  9. There were 200+ last July-Aug on VOV. 3.5 wk in dam mask. Took them off on outdoor excursions. Felt bad for crew who probably wore them 24/7.
  10. It’s a tile! Consider yourself fortunate to cruise. Mine are in a drawer & rarely see the light of day.
  11. That’s how Zaandam handled it. One day was too wet to walk the Promanade so we walked the 7 decks counting the red dots.
  12. COVID cabins have a red dot on the plaque next to door. Our VOV cruise had over 200 cases & we were masked except outside. Never got COVID, not even at home.
  13. Get up early & sit in the Crows Nest. Best view. I was there at 5:30 am aboard the Prinsendam in 2015. Sat there in my robe & pjs for at least 2.5 hr. Highly recommend it.
